Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted November 3, 2005 Posted November 3, 2005 I started my ongoing project of tabulating which Mets are in which in smal-time Halls of Fame.Piazza makes it six Mets are in the Italian-American Sports Hall of Fame. Name the other five.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2005 Posted November 3, 2005 Yogi Berra?Joe Torre?Lee Mazzilli?
Diamond Dad Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2005 Posted November 3, 2005 Didn't know there was an Italian-American Hall of Fame. Where is it? Sounds like a nice Crane Pool group outing!Lee MazzilliIs Bobby Valentine Italian? That's a head-scratcher, all right.
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted November 3, 2005 Posted November 3, 2005 Bobby ValentineJohn Franco

Joe Torre is two. Lee Mazzilli is not three.="Diamond Dad"]Lee Mazzilli Is Bobby Valentine Italian?Answers. Not questions. Bobby Valentine isn't Italian. He's Italian-American. The way things are going, he'll soon be Italian-American-Japanese. Nonetheless he's right. But, you too, answer with confidence. That's three. ="Johnny Dickshot"]Bobby Valentine John FrancoToo late on the former. Wrong on the latter.Cool that JD answered Johnny and Bobby while he's posting as Johnny Dickshot at the level of Bobby Valentine.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2005 Posted November 3, 2005 I know he's not a Met, but I'm wondering if Roy Campanella is in there. Or does his black mother keep him from being seen as Italian-American?If he's not in there, he oughta be.

Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted November 3, 2005 Posted November 3, 2005 That's the way to answer! You are correct, sir!
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted November 3, 2005 Posted November 3, 2005 So, of six Met Hall of Famers, three both played for and managed the team, one (Fregosi) interviewed and one made it far in interviewing to be manager. The likely next to to be inducted --- Mazzilli and Franco, to judge by respondents' answers --- will also someday be managerial candidates for hte Mets.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2005 Posted November 3, 2005 I think Franco will be a Mets coach in a few years, in the system of course, maybe in Brooklyn to start and in perhaps five years he'll be coaching with the big club.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted November 3, 2005 Posted November 3, 2005 No Mets were found in the Greek-American Sports Hall of Fame.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted November 3, 2005 Posted November 3, 2005 One Met is enshrined in the Polish-American Sports Hall of Fame.Name that Met.On edit: oops, two. Name those Mets.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2005 Posted November 3, 2005 The most Polish names I can come up with off the all-time roster are Joe Orsulak and Tom Paciorek.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2005 Posted November 3, 2005 ARGH! Yes.Tom Paciorek and Joe Orsulak.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2005 Posted November 3, 2005 I found the answers and one I would never have guessed.......not exactly what you might expect from a Polish name...
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted November 3, 2005 Posted November 3, 2005 Paciorek, yes. Orsulak, no. Tom Paciorekhttp://www.polishsportshof.com/images/inductees/paciorek.jpgInducted June 11, 1992One of four brothers to play professional baseball, Paciorek chalked up a .282 average in an 18-year career (1970-1987) with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Atlanta, Seattle, Chicago White Sox, New York Mets and Texas. His career-best year came in 1981 at Seattle when he batted .326, second-best in the American League, and played in the All-Star Game. Down the September stretch in 1983, he hit well over .400 to lead the White Sox to the American League West Division championship. He finished the year at .307 (his third straight year at .300 or better) and a team-leading .462 slugging average. An All-American in football and baseball at the University of Houston, Paciorek played shortstop on the Hamtramck (Mich.) 1961 Pony League world champions. Click on memorabilia for larger view.

metirish Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2005 Posted November 3, 2005 You mean Dave Mlicki 62, and for that game pitched against the MFY's I agree.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted November 3, 2005 Posted November 3, 2005 Still looking for one more pole.
