I started my ongoing project of tabulating which Mets are in which in smal-time Halls of Fame.

Piazza makes it six Mets are in the Italian-American Sports Hall of Fame. Name the other five.

Didn't know there was an Italian-American Hall of Fame. Where is it? Sounds like a nice Crane Pool group outing!

Lee Mazzilli
Is Bobby Valentine Italian?

That's a head-scratcher, all right.

Stop asking and start answering with confidence!

Yogi Berra is one. Joe Torre is two. Lee Mazzilli is not three.

Answers. Not questions. Bobby Valentine isn't Italian. He's Italian-American. The way things are going, he'll soon be Italian-American-Japanese. Nonetheless he's right. But, you too, answer with confidence.

That's three.

="Johnny Dickshot"]Bobby Valentine
John Franco

Too late on the former. Wrong on the latter.

Cool that JD answered Johnny and Bobby while he's posting as Johnny Dickshot at the level of Bobby Valentine.

I know he's not a Met, but I'm wondering if Roy Campanella is in there. Or does his black mother keep him from being seen as Italian-American?

If he's not in there, he oughta be.

Yes. Jim Fregosi. One more.

Campy was inducted in 1990, three years before he died.

That's the way to answer!

You are correct, sir!

So, of six Met Hall of Famers, three both played for and managed the team, one (Fregosi) interviewed and one made it far in interviewing to be manager.

The likely next to to be inducted --- Mazzilli and Franco, to judge by respondents' answers --- will also someday be managerial candidates for hte Mets.

I think Franco will be a Mets coach in a few years, in the system of course, maybe in Brooklyn to start and in perhaps five years he'll be coaching with the big club.

One Met is enshrined in the Polish-American Sports Hall of Fame.

Paciorek, yes. Orsulak, no.

Tom Paciorek

http://www.polishsportshof.com/images/inductees/paciorek.jpgInducted June 11, 1992

One of four brothers to play professional baseball, Paciorek chalked up a .282 average in an 18-year career (1970-1987) with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Atlanta, Seattle, Chicago White Sox, New York Mets and Texas. His career-best year came in 1981 at Seattle when he batted .326, second-best in the American League, and played in the All-Star Game. Down the September stretch in 1983, he hit well over .400 to lead the White Sox to the American League West Division championship. He finished the year at .307 (his third straight year at .300 or better) and a team-leading .462 slugging average. An All-American in football and baseball at the University of Houston, Paciorek played shortstop on the Hamtramck (Mich.) 1961 Pony League world champions.

If only for just one game, Bob Mlicki should be in the Polish-American Mets Hall of Fame.
