MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 Anderson Hernandez is a relief pitcher?AndIsn't that 17 year old outfielder they signed from the DR still "in camp"? He did play in a few games.Later
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 Yeah, Fernando Martinez, 1-2. Nice. Here's a list of guys the Mets' site says are in camp but weren't announced early enough for me to get on page, yet will probably still be listed weeks after they are farmed out. Or theyll all be re-assigned the day after I get them nicely framed in a 90x135 thumbnail shot.Starting PitchersBryan EdwardsRelief PitchersWillie CollazoBlake McGinley InfieldersChris Basak Jose Castro Jose Coronado Chase Lambin Hector Pellot Corey RagsdaleLeivi Ventura Outfielders Cory Aldridge Carlos GomezJamar Hill Fernando Martinez

Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted March 23, 2006 Posted March 23, 2006 It may be time to remove the free agents list. You have to put the past behind you.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted March 23, 2006 Posted March 23, 2006 Maybe. I'm thinking somebody will invite them somewheres, or one of them will announce a retirement to hordes of assembled media. I check every two weeks to see if either of them have gone anywhere.I'll close the book on opening day. Or maybe May 11th.

MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 Edgy, this is the last move I read about.Mets reassigned RHP Jeremi Gonzalez to minor league camp; optioned RHP Bartolome Fortunato and RHP Mike Pelfrey to minor league camp.I've noticed the names of Ragsdale, Basak and Lambin in box scores earlier this week. When Reyes played his forst game since returning from the WBC, he pnly played a few innings. I think Lambin took over for him at short.EDIT: Edgy, the only other move I could find was Padilla being put on the official 60 day DL.Later

MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 That reminds me. I thought I sw a ST box score in which Offerman was playing for another team.Bad news is, I forgot which team.My bad.Later
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 it looks like you're projecting Bannister over Iriki on the roster, and over Heilman in the rotation, and the non-roster Feliciano over RRing.I don't think it'll work that way, due to roster and contract issues, but it wouldn't be the worst thing they could do. I think that, since they signed Iriki to a guaranteed contract, and he hasn't pitched badly, he'll be in the pen, and Heilman will be in the rotation. Especially since Bannister can be sent back down without any issues. And i don't think they'll try to move somebody off the 40-man (do they run the risk of losing a player thru waivers that way?) to clear room for Feliciano, when Ring has done okay and is already on the roster.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 Yeah, I only just now switched it to Bannister and Feliciano making the team, based on the consensus of speculation the last few days. Up until then, I had Iriki and Ring, based on "roster and contract issues." But none of those are crippling and the watchers seem to think that Bannister is close to having this squad made.Iriki and the Mets didn't sign on with each other to strengthen the Norfolk Tides, so I'm dubious too, yeah.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 They can send Rule V draftee Wylie back to his original team to make room for Feliciano.Anyone else cut from the 40 man roster has to go through waivers.Later
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 Wylie, as is his right, refused a minor league assignment and became a free agent. The Mets offered him back to the Giants but they said no.Goodbye, Mitch Wylie.
Guest Bret Sabermetric Guests Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 I'm prepared to be amazed if Bannister makes the final cut, which would contradict what I've been claiming about the Mets' intransigence in promoting minor leaguers with options who have good STs at positions where they obviously could use quality players.

Of course, I'm not convinced it's a good idea, because Heilman's been dominant as a starter since winter league play. Dude has 11 K's, 0 BB in 14 innings this spring to go along with his 1.29 ERA. I'm not sure what the answer is, though, since Bannister's 2005 & his ST this year are pretty darn good--he clearly deserves a shot. Normally, I'd call for Zambrano to go to the pen, but he's been good this spring, and he's even had good control, allowing only 2 walks in 11 innings. Trachsel's struggled, but I think he's too valuable to DFA, and I don't think we can afford to trade him, as that would give us zero pitching depth. I suppose we could put Trachsel in the pen and plan on using him in relief of Petey after every Petey start (thus giving him enough time to get warmed up), but that's kind of retarded. I dunno. Not a bad problem for us to have, though.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 Reports suggest Endy Chavez has made the team, but Victor Diaz, not quite.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 But I heard someone on the radio (Eddie C ? ) say that Diaz may make the squad, and they will only bring 11 pitchers north from ST.Later
