The booth guys made a big deal out of LaRussa's intolerance for reckless pitching. They seemed to be making a real saint out of LaRussa, but damned if they didn't open the next inning with a shot of LaRussa publicly thrashing Taverez (and Taverez talking back the whole time).

Cliff Floyd has been removed from the game even though he's batting third next inning.

I think it's looking like we're going to get some Tides soon.

Mets have had 16 baserunners! The only ones to score were the two homers.

Is he okay? (tonight I can't watch)

they removed him from the game----he looked okay but holding his head.

He looked more pissed than dazed, I think.

But I just cant believe he comes back and hits a homer and gets hit in the head.

That just sucks.

Damn---its the 8th but i have to head out.
Ill chk in later...

LETS GO METS!!!!

Report: slight concussion, day to day.

Mets lose once again. That's 6 straight, but whose counting.

At least the team got their offense back on track as they scored their customary 2 runs. This has really gotten to be pathetic. The pitchers must feel as if they have to be near perfect in order to have a chance of getting a victory.

Fuck baseball. Tonight sucked. 16 motherfucking baserunners, 10 hits, including 3 XBH and the best we can do is 2 runs?

I was prepared to lose, but I didn't think Piazza would be back, and he got me going with his home run.

.294 AVG/.400 OBP/.529 SLG/.929 OPS = 2 R?

The beaning killed me. Piazza comes back, still in pain (whatever Tom was saying, he DID grimace at some of those hits), plays his little heart out and gets a fucking concussion? If we needed a metaphor for the end of our season, that's it.

So long, Piazza & the 2005 Mets, and thanks for the memories . . . We had some good moments together.

I found this strangely hilarious. I must be getting numb

Marty Noble's initial report at mlb.com mention's nothing of why Floyd was pulled.

Heilman beaning Eckstein is an oddly interesting thing. Something I don't support, but it spares the Cards from sleeping on the idea that Pedro's going to bean somebody tomorrow, and it spares the Mets from risking getting Pedro tossed.

Let's get out of Augie's Oven with a win tomorrow. Preferably a devastating thrashing.

This is the Mets longest losing streak of the season, 'folks'.
Aint that a bitch......

so they retaliated?

Ending Eckstiens chance to extend his 14 game hitting streak as well.
Interesting.
I wonder if Willie called for that......
You usually dont retaliate against an unintentional plunk like that.
I mean, it had to be unintentional, right?

....right?

Hope Piazza bounces right back. If anyone can, he can.

I dont mean to make a joke out of it, but of course, I will:

.....someone has to.
Truth is Im REALLY pissed that happened.
And if theres ANY HINT that it was intentional, i say hit all 9 of em 1st time up this next game

Teams often feel an obligation to retaliate against not just intentional beanings, but against pitching that they see as indifferently reckless --- under the notion of "If he can't keep his fastball near the plate, he has no business being out there."

intentional or not a guy got hit in the head and pedro is pitching today. retaliation is on the way!

Post: Floyd has a strained left hamstring. Floyd said he might sit out today and play Tuesday.

I missed this game. Wow.

If'n I didn't have a rooting interest, I might say it was a pretty good game. Certainly it was a showcase for all that it good and bad about Tony LaRussa. Yesterday, that meant taking advantage of September and using a half a dozen pitchers in a game where his team yielded only two runs.

Asked yesterday if he had any ill will toward Tavarez or the Cardinals, Piazza said, "No comment."Asked yesterday if he had any ill will toward Tavarez or the Cardinals, Piazza said, "No comment."

]Pedro's gonna kick some ASS!

]"No, it wasn't my responsibility [yesterday]," he said. "Nothing happened in my game. It was a clean game and it wasn't my duty to do [something yesterday]. We did it obviously [saturday] and it looked like we protected Mike in the best way possible."

Newsday says Mike's good to go, and also said that he told Randolph he was OK to play yesterday. Also:

Koo's excuse

While the Mets believe Dae-Sung Koo was out of line when he refused to warm up for an Aug. 21 game, partly leading to his demotion to Triple-A Norfolk the next afternoon, Koo explained yesterday that he was still bothered by a strained oblique muscle that night.

"I couldn't pitch," Koo said through his interpreter. "If I was the last person in the bullpen, maybe I could have."

Koo was recalled for last night's game, but his future with the Mets is murky at best, with club officials expecting him to return to Korea after the season.
