How is a team like the D-Backs in contention for their division when we are dead last in ours?

Johnny Dickshot has a thread about the Benson Bunch, this game is a laugher..

Interesting catch by the cameras after Reyes' home run. Willie was asking the other coaches if he hit it on a curve. Willie's got his eye on the ball with this kid, teaching him to hit the breaking stuff and telling him not to try to hit home runs.

Now if he could just do what Bobby V and Uncle Artie couldn't do, teach them to stop diving into first.

WOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWZERS!
a 5 spot.
And kaz with his 2nd hit.

Damn, I know i heard it here tonight afew times, but WHO ARE THESE GUYS! OUR METS?! .....am i dreaming? Did i pass out at these keys and Im drooling on this keyboard?

14 yesterday-13 now and its only the 5th!

We need that string of wins. We need that hot streak. And we need it this road trip.
And this is an awsum start.

Not quite "dead last". Unless the Diamondbacks do a lot of scoring, at the end tonight the Mets are in a three-way tie for third place in the NL East.

Before we all have a collective heart attack, let's remember that we're playing the Arizona Diamondbacks, and the starting pitchers the past two games were Claudio Vargas and Russ Ortiz.

Woops. Didn't realize we caught up.

On a different note, anyone else find it odd that we scored 13 runs without a hit from our 3 or 4 hitters?

These IGT's keep getting more enjoyable with each passing day. I love games in Arizona.

Johnny, that is one of the great, classic posts. Thanks for the laugh.

I shall retire now; cahnfident of a Met victory. Sweet dreams to you all.

="Valadius"]Up in baseball heaven, Casey Stengel is receiving a resounding "yes" in response to his most famous question as Mets manager.

LMAO

]I have to disagree. I just don't think he is a regular player. KazMat with a base hit. Let's leave Cairo on the bench.

How do you figure? He's got a good pedigree--first round draft pick with some nice minor league numbers who was never really given a starting job. And this year, his .757 OPS going into tonight's game is enough for 18th in the majors among catchers with over 100 AB.

Plus, he's got a cannon for an arm and handles the pitchers well.

We could do a lot worse than Castro, IMO . . .

Well, you said it right there. 18th in the majors is not the pedigree of a Met catcher.

You are right though, we could do a lot worse. I just hope we can do better.

BTW, this is a hell of an IGT. It's going to make a good re-read tomorrow. Keep it up, I gotta get some sleep too. I've been dragging it during the day with the West Coast games.

Fair enough . . .

Meanwhile, Jacobs has lit a fire under grizzled Met veteran Wright, who launched what sounds like a monster bomb.

I love tonight.

Then again, the Met record for runs in two games is 34. We're at 28.
