]People bring their gloves to the ballpark in hopes of catching a foul ball, and often fans with gloves get a little too involved in the game (see Maier, Jeffrey), but sometimes they get involved for all the right reason. In an International League game last week between Columbus and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Clipper infielder Mitch Jones broke the webbing in his first baseman's mitt after fielding a throw from third baseman Ryan Hankins. Jones went to get a new glove in the dugout, but nobody brought out a spare glove. As Jones waited, a fan tossed his glove to the slugging first baseman. Jones returned to the diamond with the fan's glove, finished the inning with it, and tossed it back to the fan at the end of the inning with a tip of the cap. -- Kevin Goldstein, Baseball America

Good thing for Jones that this game was a home game for Columbus. Had this game been in Scranton, he might have had to finish the ininng with an old shoe or a discarded hat.
