TRADED

I used to like how baseball cards made it seem so huge!

Jay Payton & $$ from Boston to Oakland for Chad Bradford

Eric Byrnes from Oakland to Colorado for Joe Kennedy, Jay Witasick and a prospect Quintana

Preston Wilson from Colorado to Washington for Zach Day, prospect JJ Davis & a PTBNL

So Oakland replaces Byrnes with Payton and Bradford with Witasick, saves money, gets a prospect.

Boston bleeds their bench, dumps a cancer and improves the pen in time for the MFY 4-gamer

Rockies save $$, replace Kennedy with Day and Wilson with Byrnes

Nationals get a guy who kills the Mets

If I'm Byrnes I'm pissed, but I'm happy he's not going to the Bronx.Nats did good I think, how did the Dollars work on that deal?

Byrnes gets to pad his stats playing at Coors Field.

]Twas Kotsay that just inked the 3-year ext.
Both he and Byrnes were rumored to the MFYs.

This reads a little like Lewis Carroll.

That's right. My bad. I was wondering why none of the trade stories mentioned that.

I'm guessing Preston won't have the same power at RFK as he did at Coors. It doesn't hurt the Nats, because Zach Day has been awful, but I don't think it's a difference-making deal.

Preston's got some nasty H/A splits, which I'm not going to bother to look up right now. I think I posted them in another thread, though . . . This trade reeks for the Nats, which means it will work out great for them. That's just the way things seem to happen in Washington these days . . .

If Cameron slows down and the Mets stall out, expect to see a rash of "We should've traded for Byrnes when we had the chance! Look at how well he's done since being traded to Colorado!" articles from our sports writers.

I've heard a Cameron to Boston rumor.

Does anybody know if the Mets plan to punt this season and go for it in 2006, or will they go for it now.

If they punt, I think it won't be until closer to July 31.

I think the way they play the next two week will decide it. If they win 3 of 4 from the Braves and then rack up wins against whoever comes next, they're going to try to load up for the pennant run. (I'm not saying this is what they should do, but my prediction of what they will do.)

I think only a July collapse will make them sellers. And with the Braves in town, that might happen soon.

Is that to play CF?, I can see Damon playing for the MFY's next season.

A few weeks ago Damon said that he couldn't see himself playing for the MFYs. Over the AS break he was more non-commital but it seems pretty clear he likes being on the other side of the fence and it doesn't seem he would fit in with such a corporate team.

He isn't cutting that mane of hair for George.

I don't think Damon is Bronx-bound. I might kinda like it though, because if he does, he probably won't be a very good investment, as his style is greater than is substance. He's a good outfielder, probably very good, but his arm is weak and he could turn all Bernie Williams within two years.

He occasionally finishes his seasons with dramatic lefty-righty splits (though they're fine this year). His power is way down this year, and though his average is dramatically high, his walk rate isn't. So when his average declines from this level, he could be left with merely an OK OBP, as Ichiro Suzuki was.

He could even go all Piazza on the MFY within three years. How cool would that be?

I'd like to think of it has him going "Randy Johnson."
