DC Days

I'm still frightened by the weaponry.

As previously noted, the two of us are heading toward the airport (from the Nationals to National, hah!) pretty much just after the game and will be watching fireworks from above. I'll see y'all at the tailgate at 11 AM on Independence Day.

Will youse not be able to join us on the third either, then?

When do we find out where Edge lives? His phone number? The best way
to get from hotel to his home and back? Should we bring anything? What
time? Are jackets required?

As I suggested, we should probably do a group email and swap some
numbers and stuff and not wait until the last minute.

I'll mass-e-mail the DiamondKnights, the KCs, the Dickshots, the Points, the CornerDocs, and Vic Sage today (if I have all their addies).

Isn't SilverDSL also supposed to be in DC?

By rights, A Bartlett should also be coming out.

Vic, sadly, will not be joining us.

Willets - if you're not going to be there on the third, then make sure you know how to contact me so I can get your tickets to you!

I'll be tailgating, for sure.

And I have your pin packed Bro - don't you worry about that!

Honestly, we haven't thought ahead to what we're bringing for Monday (well, we have, but not in great detail). I'm not sure whether D-Dad is going to be bringing the required ingredients along (but it's something to consider).

Yes, I will be in the area all weekend - we're going down to visit my fiancee's family in Maryland, not far from D.C.

I will definitely be at the game on the 4th so please keep me in the loop regarding where you guys will be tailgating because I'd love to try and stop by to meet everyone! I'll have another Yankee fan with me and two non-baseball fans so I can't guarentee I'll be able to make it by but hopefully I'll be able to convince them to go to the game early enough.

Ok, so it appears that I'm confirmed for a cookout the night of July 3, and another cookout on July 4 (somewhere between the game and the airport, I really don't know how this works) so the only CPF events I will have time for is the tailgate and the game itself. Apparently, I'm popular in Washington (or my fiancee is).

Oooops, I typed this is the wrong thread:

Did anyone notice if there's in room internet at the hotel?

Sweet!

Plus I just dug out my reservation confirmations, which say on the bottom -

]ANNOUNCING!!!!
FREE HIGH-SPEED INTERNET ACCESS IN ALL OF OUR BEDROOMS

Here are the driving directions from the north -

]Driving: When exiting the airport, follow the sign for I-195 West towards I-95. Take I-95 South in the towards Washington/Richmond. Exit on I-495 West towards Bethesda/Silver Spring/College Park. Take exit 33 (Route 185-Connecticut Avenue). At the bottom of the ramp, turn left on Connecticut Avenue heading southbound. Stay on Connecticut Avenue for six or seven miles. Stay in the very right lane after R Street. Turn left on Q Street. Turn right on New Hampshire Avenue, the hotel entrance is at the end of the block on the right - 1500 New Hampshire Avenue.

D-Dad says he can pack the makings for the blue stuff.

Never miss a tailgate party -- especially when KC is involved. I'll have to find a local store to buy some brats morning of the game, along with some ice for drinks. I'll bring mini-grill as well as chairs and table, KC. Also ingredients for blue drinks (any preference between blue Marguaritas or Electric Lemonade??). I have blue cups and blue and orange napkins. Usual stuff. Also banners to mark off tailgate location. Unfortunately, probably not room in the van to pack the shelter.

Agree that indoor dining after the game (for those who can still eat) would be best before outdoors again for fireworks.

Looking forward!!

Well this will be a toned down tailgate party by Jets standards. Plus, we rented
a car for the week so we have less towing capacity. I'm not risking being able to shop.
Bringing a cooler for food, one cooler for beverages ... keep adding ice.

I'd bring the Chinese Box but I got no way to bring it home. Would be great at a Jets game though.

Anyhow, I believe July 4 is not only Independence Day but Pedro Day.

He'll probably pitch tomorrow (Thursday) and then again on Tuesday the 5th. Willie will want to give him the extra day of rest created by the off day on Monday.

Too bad -- Pedro for a day game followed by fireworks would have been reminiscent of 1986, when we saw Gooden pitch a day game at Shea and then went to Battery Park for the big fireworks marking the 100th birthday of the Statue of Liberty. (Or was that '85???)

The Chinese box would be good for December games. We could charge
people for ten minute heating sessions.

The Gooden game is this one, I think ...

It's on. First Annual CPF J-E-T-S Jets Pig Roast, December 05.

You're right I miscalculated... I guess we get Ishii on July 4.

That is so funny - without seeing this post, I was just writing about this day in the answer/ask thread.

That was a great July fourth.

And the celebration! Well, let me just say that it remains the only time I've seen Sam Donaldson and Neil Diamond in sort of the same place. I was shocked.

Posted

Thanks, KC -- it was '86. Summer of magic. Gooden bested Ryan, then spectacular fireworks over the Hudson River. (And we didn't even know then that the Mets/Astros would meet later in the NLCS)

This July 4th won't have the pitching matchup of that day, but hopefully the outcome and quality of fireworks will approach '86.

I told Mini Knight that we'd probably see Ishii pitch on Tuesday.

Let's just say that he wasn't impressed.
