Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted yesterday at 11:01 AM Posted yesterday at 11:01 AM even if it's not (yet) the 4th of July A 4:10 start featuring Martin Perez for the Braves vs ... some guy in a NYM uniform, probably one to be quickly followed by another guy in the same duds. Odds favor Sean Manaea in the second role though auditions are still being conducted as to the lead. Kevin Costner has been ruled out as being too old, ditto Tom Cruise for being too short, and Brad Pitt's rate, even for just a one day appearance, is more than David Stearns is willing to pay. Martin Perez is the now 35 y/o lefty who was once highly touted prospect with Texas in the early 20-teens. Although never quite becoming a star he has been a fairly reliable 'takes the ball' kind of guy since his 2013 rookie season as he's wandered from the Twins to Red Sox, then back to the Rangers for their WS season. Since then he's spent brief stints with the Pirates, Padres and White Sox before landing this past off-season with the Braves. Naturally since he's in Atlanta he's off to a good start [3.02 ERA / 1.06 WHIP thru 13 G/10 starts] and sports a H/9 rate that's the lowest of his career [6.4]. I sense Mark Vientos being untied from the bench for the day. Brandon Glick 1

Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted yesterday at 03:19 PM Posted yesterday at 03:19 PM Not likely to have Williams or Raley today. Would be nice to have Tobias Myers to slot in behind Manaea. Not feeling terribly optimistic about these last two.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted yesterday at 06:56 PM Posted yesterday at 06:56 PM Vientos, Wagaman, and Brujan all released from extended periods of internal exile! Melendez left in there to take his hacks against the lefty! And lastly, Sean Manaea getting his first start of the season! ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted yesterday at 08:05 PM Posted yesterday at 08:05 PM I don't know that changing a winning lineup this much is the best idea but who am I The Mets could use a rally cry soon like Ya Gotta Believe or something The Tigers have been struggling terribly and are now turning it around so there is precedent
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted yesterday at 08:11 PM Posted yesterday at 08:11 PM Well. That certainly is a lineup.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted yesterday at 08:20 PM Posted yesterday at 08:20 PM Turns out that Sean Manaea is money in the first after all.
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted yesterday at 08:22 PM Posted yesterday at 08:22 PM I predict, right now, in this moment, the Mets are going to make the playoffs this year.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted yesterday at 08:48 PM Posted yesterday at 08:48 PM Manaea throws a little bit high

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted yesterday at 08:56 PM Posted yesterday at 08:56 PM I like to see a challenge turn into a walk. I like to see the Mets turn anything into a walk.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted yesterday at 09:27 PM Posted yesterday at 09:27 PM Geez, Martin Perez is cruising
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted yesterday at 09:49 PM Posted yesterday at 09:49 PM Didier Fuentes has Alvarez chasing sliders thrown toward the first-base on-deck circle.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted yesterday at 10:00 PM Posted yesterday at 10:00 PM Well, we were getting good stuff from Warren until he hung an 0-2 slider to Harris. That's AAA sloppy, Austin.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted yesterday at 10:03 PM Posted yesterday at 10:03 PM I don't know that the Mets really showed up today The Mets lineup had a bad vibe about it for me Anyway, it's not over yet
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted yesterday at 10:09 PM Posted yesterday at 10:09 PM Glad to see Ewing pinch-hitting, but curious how they will rotate him into the lineup as he is replacing Brujan. He goes to the outfield, Melendez to first, Vientos to third, and Bichette to short?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted yesterday at 10:18 PM Posted yesterday at 10:18 PM Baty is in for Vientos now right?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted yesterday at 10:19 PM Posted yesterday at 10:19 PM No, apparently Baty is in for Benge, and they left Vientos in.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted yesterday at 10:25 PM Posted yesterday at 10:25 PM This is a homer. But they have to reconceive the seating on that deck.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted yesterday at 10:28 PM Posted yesterday at 10:28 PM Weird, weird call, but a double is as good as a homer from the Mets' point of view.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted yesterday at 10:28 PM Posted yesterday at 10:28 PM And Baty should be up here, right?
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted yesterday at 10:28 PM Author Posted yesterday at 10:28 PM Are you frickin' kidding me on that reversal????
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted yesterday at 10:29 PM Posted yesterday at 10:29 PM Double is good enough right?
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted yesterday at 10:33 PM Author Posted yesterday at 10:33 PM The walk matters more than the reversal. Good AB by Semien.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted yesterday at 10:33 PM Posted yesterday at 10:33 PM Raisel up to 14 pitches. If Alvy can lay off the slider, it can go deeper.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted yesterday at 10:33 PM Author Posted yesterday at 10:33 PM But of course.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted yesterday at 10:34 PM Posted yesterday at 10:34 PM Well, smoke. Alvy and the double-play.
