And the (questionable) Mauricio call-up in place of Soto is at least working out well so far. That’s important. Also Mendoza said afterwards that Loaisiga is a ground ball pitcher, and obviously Vientos is double play candidate. Ballsy calls on both.

The only other options on the roster were Hayden Senger, MJ Melendez, and Nick Morabito. Senger is a catcher. Melendez is 0-for-4 at Syracuse. Morabito is hitting, but he's only got seven games above AA. A couple thoughts: 1. My understanding is that the 40-man roster is doesn’t have 40 men on it right now - only 38. So adding, say, Tommy Pham to that roster isn’t a big problem. 2. I understood that Melendez was playing regularly at Syracuse. I did see he had a .613 OPS in 30 PAs, so not exactly good in not exactly a meaningful sample size. 3. I would have called up Morabito if Pham isn’t ready to go yet. I’d also have considered Clifford (who isn’t hitting much in Syracuse).
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 8 Posted April 8 Well, I misread his line. Still, I celebrate the callup, for it is good.
