"Hairbreath Harry"

I like old postcards. I was in a very little Northern Michigan antique store today and stumbled upon a box of old postcards. They weren't organized at all and was about to pass, but started going through some. I came across this card of former Mets pitcher Jack Hamilton. I think it's hand-signed. It's from someplace called "The Pzazz" at Pointe Royale in Branson, Missouri. Took me down a fun rabbit hole.

I looked it up. The Pzazz was a restaurant at the Pointe Royale golf resort owned by Hamilton. He passed in 2018, but the restaurant is still there. Hamilton played 16 years in the Majors, for the Phillies, Tigers, Mets, Angels, Indians, and finishing with the White Sox in 1972. 

His shining moment for the Mets was nearly throwing the team's first no-hitter. Hamilton tossed a one-hitter against the Cardinals in St. Louis on May 4, 1966, ; the one hit being a bunt single by opposing pitcher and future Met (and spring training spot namesake) Ray Sadecki. 

He hit a grand slam against the Cardinals in 1967-- teeing off on former and future Met Al Jackson. 

The thing I found funny about the card was the listing Nickname: "Hairbreath Harry"  (Because of his many close decisions).

He must not have minded the nickname, since he had it printed on a card for his own restaurant.
