If they have to use him this year, it would tell me that:

Stearns couldn't find anyone better elsewhere, and

None of the kids Stearns drafted have improved from AAA or AA to the level of major leaguers

Stearns is wasting time filling the minor league roster instead of the major league one - a mistake in priorities.

It has nothing to do with priorities. The Mets and any other organization are capable of doing more than one thing at a time.

Good, then let him go looking for players to fill holes on the current major league team. I'm pretty sure not many other GMs were lining up to sign Pache. I hope he didn't spend more than a few minutes on it.

If it makes any difference, Pache was secured on Friday, and Jorge Polanco was signed on Saturday.

It's important to remember that every team fills out their minor league teams with signings. And all of them are guys who, well, belong in the minor leagues. The reason you don't hear about other teams signing them is because we are not fans of other teams.

As angry as I am at Stearns, and as much as I vehemently disagree with what he's doing, one thing he does well is fill in around the edges. Some of his fill-in guys have performed pretty well for us.
