I for one, would've welcomed them both.

We lost one Ryan many years ago, so this is our opportunity to get another good Ryan to replace the old one. Joe might be too good a pitcher for David Stearns, as he is still ascending, is mid-prime and has only improved these past few years, but should Stearns slip up and actually sign him, I could see him putting up 2024 Sean Manaea-type numbers.

You do understand that, if this acquisition were to happen, it would be via a trade rather than a straight signing seeing as how Ryan is still two years away from FA-gency, right?

iow this is not something Stearns can simply choose to do unilaterally. It would require both the cooperation of the Twins camp and an agreed upon package going the other way.

I guess my primary point was that Joe Ryan is not Tom Seaver. Or Johan Santana, since we're talking deals between the Mets and Twins. He is a pretty good pitcher, no more, no less. That means I wouldn't mind having him, but he's not the kind of guy I'd go all in for. And there are defensible reasons for thinking Tong by himself would be too high of a price.
