Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted October 29 Posted October 29 This one is easy. Skubal is the type of free agent on which the Mets should not be outbid. The only unknown is whether Skubal actually wants to play in New York. For some free agents, the answer is yes (e.g., Juan Soto). For others, no (e.g.. deGrom, Yamamoto).
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 29 Posted October 29 The other question, and this harkens back to the 'Pete Alonso Conundrum' thread, is how long do you go with a pitcher turning 30 y/o in a couple weeks. Gerritt Cole was mentioned up the thread somewhere. The Yanx signed him at age 29 and he's had a good run including a CY season at age 32. But now he's 36, has started a total of 39 games combined over the three seasons since, and still has two seasons to go on his deal at $36 mil/per at ages 36 & 37. Was that a worthy signing? Almost certainly yes, but there will likely be hazards along the way with a similar deal to Skubal.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted Tuesday at 09:13 PM Author Posted Tuesday at 09:13 PM Disappointed that the first 24 hours of free agency have passed and we have not yet signed Skubal.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted Tuesday at 09:19 PM Posted Tuesday at 09:19 PM "MLB Insiders" are predicting a fast free-agent market this year due to the impending lockout. They say that most high-profile free agents are likely to be signed by December 1. Makes sense, but time will tell if that's how it plays out. If true, Tarik will either be a Met or a non-Met within a matter of weeks.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted Tuesday at 09:24 PM Posted Tuesday at 09:24 PM And other reports say that the Cubs are desperate to sign him. Desperate!
