The numbers: 6.0IP 6H 2R 2ER 0BB 5K 1HR and he lowered his season's ERA to 5.94.

Nothing spectacular, but showing some consistency over his last few starts.

It was a horrible March/April that really hurt him. March ERA: 15.43. April ERA: 10.13. May ERA: 5.47. June ERA: 4.26. July ERA: 3.86. ERA since beginning of May: 4.59. Since beginning of June: 4.05. His season ERA has declined nearly every appearance since his first one.

They're down in the seventh, so he's heading for the loss. Unless a miracle happens, he'll be 6-8.

Vasil, Hamel & Tidwell, each of whom the Mets have pinned some level of hope on, have all struggled mightily at Triple-A this year :-(.

I went to last night’s Syracuse Mets/Worcester Red Sox game. Vasil was pretty good but the two homers (both by former Brave Vaughn Grissom) were no-doubters.

He must be dropping like a stone on the prospect list.

I haven't noticed him on any of the mid season top 100 updates, but he did drop on one Mets top 30 list.

Mike was not added to the 40 man major league roster and can be drafted by any other major league team in the rule V draft.

Congrats for making the majors, kid. Too bad it wasn't with the Mets.

David Stearns prefers pitchers with ERAs over 10, so he probable saw too much skill in Mike Vasil, that's why he let him go. Vasil instead dominated with the Rays, posting a 5-3 record and a 2.50 ERA in 101 innings over 47 games his first campaign, while allowing just 74 hits.

It was the White Sox. The Rays couldn't keep him on the big-league roster and the Sox, who are as close to starting from scratch as a non-expansion team can get, were happy to take a flyer on a Rule V pick. His FIP was 4.32 -- he left an unsustainably high 83% of runners on base -- but he was a serviceable innings eater mostly out of the pen. Stearns simply discarded optionable arms like Vasil and Hamel before they really got a chance at this level, in favor of dumpster diving, and I don't get that either.
