Methead Old-Timey Member Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 Welcome to 2022 10th round pick Zebulon Vermillion, a right handed reliever out of the University of Arkansas. He arrives presumably in his final form at 6'5" / 240 lb.His super cool name immediately got my attention, but it turns out he's just named after Zebulon Pike, some old guy who got a mountain named after him. Skip to 11:00 in this podcast episode for the background story -- https://thehogpod.libsyn.com/153-zebulon-vermillion-whats-in-a-nameAnyway, he spent 5 seasons in college due to the extra covid year and he's 23 already, so maybe he starts off right away in Brooklyn and we see how that goes. I'm looking forward to hearing his name called out over the Citi Field PA someday.https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=vermil000zeb
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 I look forward to him joining Vida Blue and Kevin Brown on the All-Color Team.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 23, 2022 Posted July 23, 2022 Somehow managed to appear in five different seasons for Arkansas.
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2022 Posted July 23, 2022 I believe COVID-19 allowed all NCAA athletes an extra year of eligibility.
Methead Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2022 Author Posted July 26, 2022 I missed this yesterday, but Zebulon has signed a minor league deal for a $20k bonus. He's doing the team a solid by signing for a lot less than the $152k slot value of the pick. You don't have a whole lot of negotiating leverage as a 5th-year senior.
Methead Old-Timey Member Posted August 9, 2022 Author Posted August 9, 2022 Zeb has been assigned to the FCL Mets, in what used to be known as the Gulf Coast League.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 24, 2022 Posted August 24, 2022 Zebulon Vermillion (that is FUN to type) pitched a scoreless inning in his pro debut last night.Later
Methead Old-Timey Member Posted August 24, 2022 Author Posted August 24, 2022 And he only needed three pitches to do it, unless that's a misprint.https://www.milb.com/player/zebulon-vermillion-676199
Methead Old-Timey Member Posted May 1, 2023 Author Posted May 1, 2023 Assigned to St. Lucie a few weeks ago, but his roster status is shown as "injured - full season", so that's unfortunate. I was looking forward to frequent reports of dominant Zebulon! performances but I guess that will have to wait.
Methead Old-Timey Member Posted December 19, 2023 Author Posted December 19, 2023 This guy still exists as far as I know. My web browser can't access any news about players in alternate dimensions or parallel universes, so I just have to assume.
Methead Old-Timey Member Posted March 2, 2024 Author Posted March 2, 2024 I missed this news back in November but Zebulon! was activated by the St. Lucie Mets.Hoping for some more exciting updates soon.

Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2025 Posted March 24, 2025 They're screwing this guy over
Methead Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2025 Author Posted June 8, 2025 Scroll 90% of the way down this article and you'll find some actual info about what's going on with this guy: https://www.amazinavenue.com/2025/2/5/24357590/mets-top-prospects-2025-other-players-of-note-new-yorkEvidently he had Tommy John surgery following his one professional appearance in August of 2022... so let's say he tried to rehab it, underwent the procedure at some point in the spring / summer of 2023, I could see how someone might miss all of 2024. So... barring a setback you'd think he'd be throwing something somewhere by now. Can I get a pic of this guy skipping a rock on a lake in the Ozarks? Anything?
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2025 Posted June 8, 2025 Vermillion must be red with anger at how he's been treated.
Methead Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2025 Author Posted June 8, 2025 Looks to me like he's ready to get on a mound.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2025 Posted June 8, 2025 That's a fake.That's actually Vebulon Zermillion
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 25, 2025 Posted June 25, 2025 I like the weird little serif in the middle of the E in VERMILLION.I am also curious what league that logo on the back of his neck and waist represents.
Methead Old-Timey Member Posted November 12, 2025 Author Posted November 12, 2025 HOLY ****November 6, 2025 : St. Lucie Mets activated RHP Zebulon Vermillion from the 60-day injured list.
Methead Old-Timey Member Posted April 5 Author Posted April 5 April 1, 2026: St. Lucie Mets released Zebulon Vermillion. Thus concludes the saga of the prospect I adopted based on his name alone. I had high hopes after he threw just three pitches to get through one perfect inning in 2022, but shortly thereafter he was struck down by a meteor and was unable to get back on the field after several grueling surgeries and rehab stints. I assume. MFS62 1
