Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted September 29 Posted September 29 Some good choices this year. Zac Thornton was 5-6. 1.7 WAR. 3.42 ERA Nate Lavender was 1-0. 0.9 WAR. 1.66 ERA Jared Young had 1.7 WAR. .759 OPS. 9 HR. JCL mentioned AJ Ewing. Ewing was the #4 prospect coming into the season. Not DH eligible. I think none of the other guys made a significant enough impact but feel free to vote otherwise!
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted September 29 Posted September 29 Lavender is my pick, not because he did as much but because he was the true dark-horsiest of the bunch.
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted September 29 Posted September 29 Thornton and Lavender were both prospects from whom some productivity was expected, so I don't really think they qualify as dark horses in the strictest sense. Jared Young, a career minor leaguer/Quadruple-A guy who had his 'breakout' season at 30? Now that's the definition of a dark horse. So he gets my vote. Daniel Duarte is more of a dark horse than Lavender was. He was a scrap heap find, nearly 30, hadn't done much, then he went 2-0 with a 2.12 mark and 0.809 WHIP in 24 games.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted September 29 Author Posted September 29 Kudos to metmarathon. He had Lavender as his pick. None of our other predictions did enough to warrant consideration.
