Mitch Voit is For Real, TMZ Confirms

Mets infield prospect Mitch Voit was the 38th overall draft pick in the 2025 draft out of the University of Michigan. He was the highest draft pick out of Michigan in 25 years. 

Voit grew up near Milwaukee and attended Whitefish Bay High School. The 21-year-old looks to become the second person from his high school to go to the big leagues. The other is Cubs manager Craig Counsell.

The Counsell family still lives in Whitefish Bay. His eldest son Brady Counsell was one year ahead of Voit in high school. He went on to the University of Minnesota for three years and then spent a season at Kansas. He was the 10th round pick of the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2025. 

Jack Counsell was a year younger than Voit and when his time at Whitefish Bay came to an end, he followed Voit to Michigan. He spent the 2024 season with the Wolverines and has played the last two Big Ten seasons at Northwestern. 

Back to Voit, he was a starter for Michigan right away as a freshman. He hit .267/.338/.439 (.777) with nine doubles, a triple, and seven home runs. In addition, he pitched 36 innings over 19 games and was 4-1 with five saves and a 3.25 ERA. The next year, he hit .292/.373/.572 (.945) with 20 doubles, two triples, and 14 home runs. On the mound, he made 10 starts and went 5-3 with a 5.49 ERA over 62 1/3 innings. However, in July of that year, he had elbow surgery which ultimately ended his career as a pitcher.   

As a junior in 2025, fully focused on hitting, he hit .346/.471/.668 (1.140) with 17 doubles, four triples, and 14 home runs. The Mets liked what they saw enough to make him the 38th overall pick in the June 2025 draft. He ended the season with 22 games for St. Lucie. 

He began the 2026 season with 76 games in Brooklyn. He hit .242/.349/.396 (.745) with 12 doubles and 11 home runs. He also had 36 steals. In late July, he moved up to Double-A Binghampton and really took off as a prospect. In 29 games, he hit .347/.430/.517 (.947) with 12 doubles, a triple, two homers and nine stolen bases. He had multiple hits in 11 of those 29 games including five of his first eight games. In that eighth game, he went 5-for-6 and was hitting .594/.658/.969 (1.627) with seven doubles, a triple, and a home run. He had six walks and four strikeouts. He was also 4-for-4 in stolen base attempts.   

 

 

The Mets and prospect ranking sites were really liking what they have seeing of Voit as well. Here at Grand Central Mets, he jumped up to the team's #4 ranked prospect. 

Others noticed Voit too and liked what they saw. I know that his AA numbers were eyepopping, but we have box scores. We know they're real, even if some could argue that they were A.I. or something.
