TL;DR Breakdown/Highlights

Phillies Series: Coming fresh off the All-Star Break, the Mets started the second half against the division rival Phillies.

They opened the series on the right foot behind another outstanding performance from Christian Scott and a pair of home runs from Francisco Alvarez. Alvarez accounted for three of New York’s four runs with two solo blasts, while Brett Baty added a homer of his own in the seventh inning to extend the lead. Scott tossed seven scoreless innings, allowing just three hits while striking out eight, before Trea Turner spoiled the shutout with a solo homer off Luke Weaver in the eighth. A.J. Ewing added an RBI double in the ninth, and Devin Williams recorded his 100th career save to seal the victory.

The Mets struggled to generate offense in the middle game of the series as Jesús Luzardo and the Phillies kept New York quiet all afternoon. Tyrone Taylor provided the lone bright spot with a solo home run in the second inning, but the Mets managed little else against Philadelphia’s pitching staff. Sean Manaea battled through five innings as Kyle Schwarber’s early two-run homer and a three-run fifth inning gave the Phillies control. Philadelphia added two more runs in the sixth, while the Mets never mounted a serious comeback in the 6-1 defeat.

The Mets wrapped up the series with one of their most complete performances of the season, fueled by rookie Nolan McLean’s dominant outing and an early offensive surge. McLean struck out 10 over six scoreless innings, allowing just two hits as he continued his impressive rookie campaign. Francisco Lindor led the offense by going 3-for-3 with a two-run homer, three RBIs, and two walks, while the Mets built a 5-0 lead through the first two innings and never looked back. Alec Bohm’s solo homer accounted for Philadelphia’s only run, as New York collected 14 hits to secure its first road series victory since early June.
