The Mets opened the series with a 3-2 win behind the best start of Robert Stock's major-league career. Stock tossed 5.1 scoreless innings, scattering five hits and striking out four. Mark Vientos made an immediate and big impact in his return from the IL, launching a solo home run before the Mets added two more runs against the Rays' bullpen. Tampa Bay scored twice in the eighth to make things interesting, but Kodai Senga worked a scoreless ninth for his fifth save, and New York held on. Tuesday's game featured a familiar face on the opposite mound, as former Met Freddy Peralta faced the Mets for the first time since being dealt to Tampa Bay at the trade deadline. Francisco Lindor greeted him with a leadoff home run, but Peralta settled down and retired the final 13 hitters he faced while allowing just one run over six innings. Sean Manaea struggled against the Rays' lineup, allowing five runs on 11 hits over 5.2 innings. Yandy Díaz homered and doubled, while Junior Caminero extended his hitting streak to 15 games as Tampa Bay evened the series with a 6-2 victory. The Mets responded with an offensive explosion in Wednesday's rubber match. New York scored three times in the first and another three in the third, highlighted by Brett Baty's bases-clearing double, to build a 6-0 advantage. Tampa Bay cut the lead to 6-4, but Nick Morabito provided the biggest moment of his young career in the seventh, driving in three runs with his first major league hit. Giants Series: After Thursday's day off, the Mets returned to Citi Field for three games against another team looking toward the future. The series featured plenty of power, with the two teams combining for 23 home runs over the weekend, including eight from the Mets. Friday's opener quickly turned into a home run derby for New York. Mark Vientos launched a three-run homer in the first inning before Francisco Alvarez, Bo Bichette and Francisco Lindor all went deep as the Mets built a 9-2 lead. Alvarez added his second home run of the night in the eighth, giving the Mets five homers as a team. Nolan McLean continued his impressive rookie campaign, allowing two runs over six innings with seven strikeouts and working out of a bases-loaded, no-out jam in the fifth. Rafael Devers drove in five runs for San Francisco, but New York's early offensive outburst was too much to overcome in a 10-6 victory. The power went in the opposite direction Saturday. San Francisco blasted six home runs in a 9-5 victory, with Rafael Devers and Christian Koss each going deep twice. Zac Thornton surrendered four of them and allowed six runs on seven hits over five innings. A.J. Ewing provided New York's biggest offensive highlight with a two-run homer in the second inning, while Brett Baty drove in three runs. The Mets loaded the bases in the seventh with an opportunity to make things interesting but managed only one run, and the Giants pulled away late to even the series. For seven innings Sunday, it looked as though the Mets were headed for another series loss. Giants rookie Cesar Perdomo held New York scoreless over six innings, and San Francisco carried a 2-0 advantage into the bottom of the eighth. Brett Baty changed the game with a pinch-hit solo homer before A.J. Ewing singled and eventually advanced to third. The opener was easily the high point of the series. Francisco Lindor and Luis Robert Jr. each homered as the Mets carried a 2-1 lead into the ninth, but Milwaukee tied the game to force extra innings. Lindor then made a diving defensive play with the bases loaded (that SNY missed) in the ninth before scoring the winning run in the 10th, giving New York a 3-2 victory. The win moved the Mets to 60-72 and gave them an impressive victory against one of baseball's best teams. Things went downhill quickly on Wednesday. Milwaukee scored four runs in the second inning against Robert Stock and added more in the fourth on Brice Turang's three-run homer. The Brewers finished with 13 hits, while the Mets managed nine but scored only one run. Robert Gasser gave Milwaukee 6 1/3 strong innings after starter Dustin May left early after he was hit by an AJ Ewing line drive, and the Brewers cruised to an 8-1 victory. The Mets couldn't recover in Thursday's rubber game. Sean Manaea surrendered six runs on eight hits over 5 2/3 innings as Milwaukee jumped ahead and never relinquished control. Jackson Chourio was the star of the afternoon for the Brewers, going 4-for-5 with two home runs, four RBIs, and four runs scored. Jacob Misiorowski limited New York to two runs and two hits over six innings, striking out six as the Brewers rolled to an 8-2 victory and took the series. Astros Series: Things did not get much easier with Houston coming to Citi Field immediately after Milwaukee. Christian Scott and Hunter Brown matched up in a pitching-heavy opener Friday. Carson Benge gave the Mets a 1-0 lead with an RBI double in the fourth, but Houston finally got to Scott in the sixth. Daulton Varsho delivered a two-run single before Yainer Diaz added another RBI hit, turning the game around. Brown struck out a season-high 10 over 6 2/3 innings, while Scott allowed all three Houston runs and walked five as the Mets fell, 3-1 to Houston. Saturday brought two major positives: Juan Soto returned and Nolan McLean dominated. Soto was activated after missing more than a month with a calf injury and immediately made an impact with a go-ahead RBI single in the fifth inning. Jared Young had three RBIs, including a two-run triple, while Francisco Alvarez added a two-run double in the eighth. Daniel Duarte handled the ninth, and the Mets escaped with a 2-1 victory. Game two belonged to Fernando Tatis Jr. The Padres star opened the game with a home run off Zac Thornton and added another blast in the fifth as San Diego built an early advantage. Tatis also robbed Francisco Lindor of what would have been a grand slam, making his stamp on both sides of the ball. Francisco Alvarez then doubled to bring home Baty and tie the game against Nationals closer Yovanny Cruz. After A.J. Ewing struck out, Francisco Lindor came through with a walk-off RBI single to give New York a 5-4 win and their second come-from-behind win in the ninth inning this season. It was the Mets' sixth walk-off win of the season and secured another series victory. The Mets finished the sweep with a 4-3 victory Sunday afternoon. Brett Baty opened the scoring with a home run as the Mets built an early advantage, but Cleveland battled back and eventually grabbed a 5-4 lead in the seventh. New York refused to go quietly, tying the game in the ninth, thanks in part to the Guardians defense, before pushing across another run in the 10th to regain the lead. The bullpen finally shut the door in the bottom half, giving the Mets a 6-5 extra-inning victory and securing the series win. The Mets saved their biggest offensive performance of the series for the finale. The Guardians scored twice in the first inning, but the Mets immediately responded with three in the second and two more in the third to take control. The home team made things interesting by cutting the deficit to one in the fifth, but the Mets exploded for seven runs between the seventh and eighth innings to turn the game into a rout. New York finished with 18 hits and 13 runs, completing the three-game sweep and leaving Cleveland with plenty of offensive momentum. Pirates Series: Coming fresh off the sweep in Cleveland, the Mets came into Pittsburgh riding high and kept their mojo going. The first game kicked off the weekend in excellent fashion with a 6-4 victory. Their offense once again did enough damage to build a lead, and although Pittsburgh made things interesting, New York was able to protect the advantage late. The victory extended the Mets' winning streak to four games and continued an impressive start to the post-trade-deadline portion of their schedule. Unfortunately, that streak came to an abrupt end Saturday night as Bubba Chandler and the Pirates completely shut down the Mets' offense. New York was held scoreless for the first time on the road trip while Pittsburgh erupted for nine runs. It was a complete reversal from what the Mets had done offensively in Cleveland, and the nine-run defeat was easily their ugliest performance of the week. Still, the Mets entered Sunday's rubber game with an opportunity to finish the trip with consecutive series victories. In that finale, the Mets responded to Saturday's shutout in a big way, pounding Pittsburgh 11-1 to take the series. Bo Bichette had a monster afternoon, going 5-for-5 with three RBIs, while Luis Robert Jr., also with a monster day, drove in four runs and launched a two-run homer. Francisco Alvarez also went deep as New York collected 15 hits. Sean Manaea was just as impressive on the mound, striking out 11 over seven innings while allowing only one run and no walks. The blowout gave the Mets their fifth victory in six games and capped off one of their best weeks all year long. The New York Mets have made a minor trade with the Dodgers. The Mets are sending Ben Rortvedt to the Dodgers for reliever Chayce McDermott. The deal was first reported by Jon Heyman of the New York Post. McDermott, a righty reliever, has posted a 4.55 ERA in Triple-A for the Dodgers this season before being DFA'd this week. His arsenal includes a Cutter (43.6% usage), Four-Seamer (43.6% usage), Slider (10.3% usage), and split-finger (2.6% usage) in limited MLB experience. With the number of relievers the Mets are moving or are projected to move, McDermott could make a solid impact at the MLB level for the Mets. Moving Rortvedt, who was claimed by the Mets this offseason from the Dodgers, will return to the place where he won a World Series in 2025 as the Dodgers sought out some help at the catcher position. The New York Mets were not shopping Luke Weaver at the 2026 trade deadline. Now, with the reality of how expensive the relief market is, Chealsy Janes of SNY is reporting that it's "more definitive" that the right-hander will be moved. Weaver has been outstanding this season. In 43.0 innings, Weaver has posted a 1.88 ERA, a 2.87 FIP, and a 4.00 K/BB ratio. Weaver was transformed into one of baseball's top relievers over the past few seasons. Weaver has experience closing in the biggest of games from his time with the Yankees, which will make him more appealing to teams. He also has another year left on his contract and is owed $12.5M in 2022. The Mets' fire sale is about to begin, and a new report indicates the Mets could move catcher Francisco Alvarez. Brett Baty delivered a two-run single during the rally, while the bullpen shut the door after the offense created separation. After allowing Kansas City to hang around for much of the night, New York finally capitalized on its opportunities and errors by the other side late to secure the victory. The Mets closed out the series on a high note, riding a balanced offensive attack and another strong pitching performance to win the rubber game. New York scored seven runs on 11 hits, getting contributions throughout the lineup while the pitching staff limited Kansas City to just three runs.
