Blake Snell faces the minimum thru 8 innings [one single - pickoff]

Roki Sasaki (the guy we lusted after last off-season) comes on in the 9th to protect a 2-0 lead.

GO - BB

So tying run on with one out.

Ground Rule Double (Bauers) -- 2nd & 3rd, tying run on 2nd, still one out,

Lineup turns over to leadoff hitter Jackson Chourio

Sac Fly, both runners move up. 2-1 Dodgers (they had a tack-on run in top-9), 2 outs, Yelich up.

And after almost getting hit by a pitch, Turang swings through a 2-2 pitch up above the zone for the final out

Dodgers 2 - Brewers 1

And for those of you not watching, the wildest play of the game came in the 4th inning of the still scoreless game when Max Muncy hit a ball off the CF wall with the bases loaded into a double play with no runs scoring. That's tough to do y'know. 8-6-2 if you're scoring at home (or even if you're alone).

The key part of that play is that the center fielder nearly caught the ball, but it hit off his glove, then the top of the wall, and fell into the field where the CF then caught it before it fell to the ground. The umps were all over it and as the replay showed, the LF umpire correctly made an immediate call of ball-in-play/not a catch.

The runner on third, Teoscar Hernandez, had absolutely no business being out on a force play at home.

When the ball was in the air, he should've been at third tagging. And when the centerfielder put his glove on the ball, that's the exact moment when he should have left third and started running. How can we be so sure?

Because, of course, the rule about leaving the base upon first contact by the outfielder (admittedly a more obscure rule) was a key play in a Mets game this past May that required a replay review. And, of course, the Mets' opponent that game was…the LA Dodgers.

It was such a dumb play by Teoscar who, while a terrific hitter, is an adventure on defense and didn't cover himself in glory running the bases last night.

When a ball is hit that deep in the OF (as deep as it could get in this case) there's only one play for the runner at 3rd: TAG UP!!!

That way, if the ball is caught you run. Also if the ball is dropped you run. If the ball is even touched you run. And if the ball makes it over the fence you

can just walk. There's nothing to be gained by being even one foot off of 3rd base! At one point after the catch/non-catch Hernandez was running both

ways which is what allowed the Brewers to cut him down at the plate (and it wasn't even particularly close).

Plus his movements back and forth between home & 3rd caused the other two runners to hold up also although, in fairness, Will Smith at 2nd seemed

just as confused and at one point was waving his trail runner back towards 1st. Nobody, it seems, looked to ump as everyone was probably looking at

the ball the whole time and made assumptions when they saw it wound up in the CF's glove.

In all it was a pretty entertaining couple of minutes. Dave Roberts wound up challenging the call on the hope it would show an incorrect or non call by an

umpire(s) which would at least have negated the DP as all runners would have been returned to their bases.

It makes you wonder what the base coaches are doing during all of this. You'd think they'd be watching the umps, then directing traffic.

Just your average 8-6-2 double play.

The announcers have been touting Hernandez for his post season home runs, but he's going to be remembered for this game, too.

So Yamamoto, our pursuit back in winter '23-'24, would have been a nice addition: 38 starts over two seasons, 2.66 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, and a league low 5.9 H/9 this season.

Roki Sasaki, this past winter's white whale, not so much (at least so far): 10 games, 8 starts, 36.1 total IP. And kind of a rough outing in relief last night (2B + BB/5 batters faced)

Yeah. Our pitching was no where near good enough to get to this point.

Snell signed so early and was hurt this year so he doesn't get mentioned a lot in the “coulda shoulda” discussion. But it will be work it if they win another WS.

Yahoo sports shows the TOR SEA game will be on FS1 but lists no network for this game. Just a time: 6:08 EDT

16 combined K's thru 5 innings in a 1-1 late-afternoon-sun Dodger Stadium pitchers' duel

Tyler Glasnow (now being pulled after allowing a two-out walk in top 6?!??!) vs Jacob Misiorowski (who followed an ineffective 'opener')

Brewers now down 3 games to none

They've scored a combined 3 runs on 9 hits across the three games

Oh yeah, and Jackson Chourio injured himself (either hamstring pull or a doozy of a cramp) on a swing and had to leave the game.

It was a cramp. He says he'll be available for the next game.

Nada puede ayudar.

Ohtani is an alien freak, there's no other explanation.

He currently is throwing a one-hitter thru 5 and has two HRs (and a walk) in three PAs

I'm not sure where the second HR landed ... or even IF it landed.

4-0 Dodgers, going for the sweep.

Posted

Ohtani: 6 innings, 2 hits, 3 walks, no runs, 100 pitches

Leaves with two on/no outs in top 7

Plus, y'know, that whole three PA/two HR/one BB thing at the plate

Posted

It's insane. I know he's been around a while but it's still crazy to see.

We will never see anything like this again.

Did I say two HRs?

Sorry, I meant three.
