DeGrom on the mound at Citi Field! Will the Mets score at all against him, if just to remind him they infrequently scored enough for him? Will they score for one of the pitchers they fancy as their next deGrom? A win is a Tong time coming. 7:10 on SNY.

A lot of mixed feelings with this return tonight. There aren't a lot of (maybe none) star players who left the Mets not because they wanted to get paid more than the Mets were offering or because of a falling out with management — but just because they didn't want to be on the Mets anymore.

The years of dominance won't ever be forgotten but at the end of the day, he didn't want to be in New York, and while I respect the choice, I can't help but feel a slight disrespect.

Here's hoping for the traditional “deGrom start” tonight. Great performance by Jacob but his team supports him with zero runs (or at least one fewer than he alllows).

Fuck deGrom and fuck Texas. They should have seceded

from the Union many moons ago.

The candidates that come to mind are Darryl Strawberry, Mickey Lolich, Richie Hebner, and Dave Kingman, who welcomed Keith Hernandez to the Mets because Keith represented his "ticket out."

Then he stuck to the Mets like gum for the remainder of the season.

But that is stretching the definition of "star players." But come to think of it, I guess John Olerud should qualify.

John Olerud went back to Washington because his wife was pregnant with a child that would require special care and his father was a department head at the U of Washington Medical Center, where the baby and mother could receive that care.

No amount of money or different teammates could have kept him here. Even though that care could have been provided by one of the great hospitals here, he trusted family more.

Strawberry was the first name I thought of.

Hebner left through a trade, not free agency, but it was certainly clear that he didn't want to be here.

Lolich retired, sat out for a year, and then signed with the Padres. I don't recall what the free agent rules were at the time; the Mets may have needed to release their claim on him but I'm not sure of that.

Well, that wasn't very good.

That crash and burn makes the Hindenburg look like a sparkler.
