It is un-nerving for starting pitchers, the way Mendoza stands on the top step with a giant hook.

I noticed that. Almost foaming at the mouth in my eyes

And if you go to Stanek with the hook I'd be inclined to let Peterson fight through it.

I don't understand going to him coming off an off day.

Mendoza must have far more faith in the bullpen than he does his starters. Once the starter gets through 5 innings, they are on a short leash and generally pulled as soon as someone gets on base.

If the starters want to go deeper they have to earn it, and lately most of them haven't.

Mendoza didn't have a problem letting Peterson go 7 - 8 and even 9 earlier in the year when he was pitching well. But his August ERA was nearly 7.00 and here

he had given up four runs thru 5-1/3 and was near 100 pitches. Kind of lucky he was left in on long as he was.

Mendoza is a *ussy

I don't even know what that means in this context.

Whew.

They went Stanek because they are preparing to use four or more guys to protect this (currently very slim) lead and probably would prefer none of them to be name Helsley.

Or Suero, probably.

And that's it for Petros. Can't say that I disagree

Referring to the short hook I believe he has

Obviously in my opinion only

I'm growing tired of Mendoza not having the balls to let his starters work out of spots. I suspect Hefner is not helping

The idea is to hand less outs to the bullpen, not more

What triggered me was how Mendoza was hanging on the railing chomping at the bit to pull him regardless of how the at bat would turn out

He does this often and it can't be easy on your starting pitcher. Yes Peterson looked gassed and I can't really walk that back

You mention starters need to "earn" the opportunity to stay in longer. To a point yes, but letting a starter go longer is easier when he is rolling than these mid game decisions
