Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 25, 2025 Posted August 25, 2025 The main thing that is left for tonight is to get Lindor into the hit column.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 25, 2025 Posted August 25, 2025 One more batter needs to reach to get Lindor up.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 25, 2025 Posted August 25, 2025 12-3Laugher against the Phillies
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 25, 2025 Posted August 25, 2025 Would a team use a position player to pitch with a huge lead in the ninth? I wouldn't think so
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 25, 2025 Posted August 25, 2025 José Castillo's first win since Crazy Rich Asians was on the big screen. The last time Castillo won, JD Vance was describing himself as "a Never Trump guy."
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 25, 2025 Posted August 25, 2025 Great satisfying winIt almost feels like the season and stretch runs starts nowLGM
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted August 25, 2025 Posted August 25, 2025 That felt like two different games. The Mets couldn't buy a hit early. The Phillies threatened every inning. Then everything changed just like that.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 25, 2025 Posted August 25, 2025 There was NOTHING!!!! in the first four innings that even slightly indicated was to come in the final five.I was a few minutes from deciding I'd rather rearrange my sock drawer than watch the remainder of the game when the script suddenly flipped.A million hits (most with two outs), walks, good defense, and a near-perfect pen came out of absolutely nowhere.Down 3-0 I wasn't sure they were going to score four times in the series and they wind up with 13 in half a game. Go figure. The only downside remains Senga. No change, no improvement, and the picture doesn't look promising going forward.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 25, 2025 Posted August 25, 2025 I like to think they took something off Senga's back.Liking to think that doesn't make it true, of course. But the day he hit the IL — June 13 — was the day the Mets started a streak of eight losses in a row, 11 in 12 games, 15 in 18 games, etc. It put him in the position of being the key Met that had to return to change their fortune, and when he returned, he got hurt again, covering first, and he has tried to tough through it and hasn't found himself since that second injury. Now, getting picked up big time, the Mets send him the message that he can do what he has to do to get right, and they can pick him up until then.Or not, but they picked up Soto, Alonso, and Lindor pretty nicely as well. Also, in addition to seeing the super-slumps of Taylor and Torrens cracking, very surprising news coming out today about Álvarez taking BP.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2025 Posted August 26, 2025 Jose Castillo faced two batters getting three outs on three pitches that took close to twenty minutes to throw. But he got the 'W' for his efforts!

Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2025 Posted August 26, 2025 I was thinking last night how many times we've been on the wrong side of last night's game. Score some runs early, then the offense goes to sleep. Defensive miscue leads to a run. Starter falls apart in the middle innings, bullpen implodes and we lose a laugher. Their scrub 9 place hitter goes off.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 26, 2025 Posted August 26, 2025 That pickoff-turned-error was a real change of fortune they never looked back from. The sun shines more brightly when Juan Soto hustles.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2025 Posted August 26, 2025 Like last week maybe, when Kruk asked his partner how the guy who invented the first clock knew what time it was.
