Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2025 Posted July 30, 2025 Clay Holmes vs Yu Darvish; 4:10 first pitch (or thereabouts)Darvish, who turns 39 in a few weeks!!, pitched only 16 games for the Swinging Friars last season and just four so far this year ... with pretty rocky results.16.2 IP combined in those four games resulting in a 9.18 ERA. The big flub was his last start vs StL: 8 ER, 8 H, 2 BB in just 3/1 IP, but the others weren't pretty either. It would be nice if NYM bats can hit someone seeing as how they've had a grand total of 10 hits thru the first two games.Lineups to follow (probably)
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2025 Posted July 30, 2025 I think that Darvish is something like 5-1 career-wise against the Mets. Later
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2025 Posted July 30, 2025 Two huggables in the lineup, Vientos DH and Baty 2B.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 30, 2025 Posted July 30, 2025 Gelbs doing the intro for a game that Cohen is otherwise driving. Weird.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2025 Posted July 30, 2025 Am i the only one here hoping that the Mets trade Holmes before this game starts?

The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2025 Posted July 30, 2025 Walking & hitting the set up guys to load ghe bases for the Machado was just begging to be abused. Machado wasted little time making Holmes pay for his inability to throw strikes.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 30, 2025 Posted July 30, 2025 I kind of felt like pre-toe-fracture Lindor gets to Maldonado's single. If he does, Maldonado is probably as throw-out-able as anybody.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2025 Author Posted July 30, 2025 Holmes has retired six of the first 13 batters faced.Darvish, who has a .309/.405/.515 (BAA/OBA/SLGA) against this season, has allowed the Mets one single so far.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 30, 2025 Posted July 30, 2025 Somebody else is wearing Cronenworth's uni.
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2025 Posted July 30, 2025 Darvish has basically been throwing BP in his 3 previous starts this season. He is making the Mets look like a bunch of overmatched Little Leaguers thus far today.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2025 Posted July 30, 2025 I'm so over Clay Holmes. He's like the new Matz
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 30, 2025 Posted July 30, 2025 Holmes needs to skip a start or two. Maybe throw a turn to José Butto or Blade Tidwell. What?
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2025 Posted July 30, 2025 Wow. The Padres are just kicking the Mets collective asses.

No, you are not lol...Mets down 4-sniffle through three. Could have easily been8-9-10-sniffle but that's beside the point.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 30, 2025 Posted July 30, 2025 Gary says there is nothing we can do about players getting tipped off about trades from social media. We can stop tipping off the press before a deal is official, I guess.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2025 Posted July 30, 2025 LOL!Right.I'd like a dollar for every player with a trades site bookmarked.Later
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2025 Posted July 30, 2025 I wish the Padres pitcher integrated a cool spin move into his windup so we could call him Whirling Darvish.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 30, 2025 Posted July 30, 2025 Let's turn Garrett into a starter. Also, let's stop Taylor from swinging at the first pitch, leading off, down four.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2025 Posted July 30, 2025 Vientos and Mauricio - fighting it out .They have the two Mets hits today (one each).Later
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2025 Author Posted July 30, 2025 Coming into today's game Darvish retired 49 of the 80 batters he faced this season (4 games).Today: 18 of 20
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2025 Author Posted July 30, 2025 57% (4/7) of the NYM runs in this series came on one swing. The Vientos GS gave them a 4-run lead in the 5th inning of game #1. They've been out-scored 17-2 in the [CROSSOUT]20[/CROSSOUT] 21 innings since.
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2025 Posted July 30, 2025 Not doing too well at avoiding the broom.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 30, 2025 Posted July 30, 2025 Well, we get to pinch-hit for Taylor next inning, so ... .
