That is Pete Alonso since making the throw that may or may not have led to Kodai Senga's injury. Senga sent his translator back to tell Alonso that the throw was unrelated to the injury, and whether or not you believe that, the issue, of course, is how much Pete believes it.

Including a walk late in that game, Alonso has gone 2-for-12, with a double, one run scored, the aforementioned walk, an HbP, and zero RBI. He has left 10 guys on base, including two bases-loaded strikeouts. And that double — that was his only highlight of the Rays series — could have easily been ruled foul.

Probably no connection, but it's a thing to watch. Also worth noting is a very rare two bad shows in a row from starting pitchers in the three games since the Senga injury. The only strong start — by Clay Holmes — ended early when it seemed like the Mets had a comfortable lead, and then was more than offset by a relief implosion by Paul Blackburn in an appearance that was seemingly set up as a quasi-start, for him to get a long appearance in preparation for being the most likely inheritor of Senga's spot in the rotation.

it is, of course, highly speculative that we are looking at causality and not coincidence, but it becomes a narrative if it continues, and relevance somehow grows.

Maybe the Blackburn meltdown was not linked to the Senga injury at all, but it, itself, became the actual poison pill leading to the stinky series that followed, morale being the fragile thing that it is.

Probably not.

It's my fault.

I was there Friday night, having gotten home from a business trip the day before. Before the game I said to myself, "I'm not gonna drink tonight". Was out a lot during my trip, and I felt like I needed a detox.

But we scored in the bottom of the fifth. And looked like we pulled away. Holmes pitch count was low. It was Pride Night and everyone was having a blast. So I said, fuck it. Just a beer or two.

And we haven't won since.

Many Mets fans are blaming Pride Night and showing the pride flag on the big screen during the National Anthem, and showing two guys kissing in the screen and another guy shaking his ass on the big screen

I stumbled into a handful of bullshit Facebook threads insisting that the US flag was "replaced" by the Pride flag during the national anthem, accompanied by a clip showing it appearing on the video scoreboard for about four seconds.

Got into it with a HS friend over this exact post on Facebook.

The weird thing is that we should know by now that what is on the screen does not replace the flag in any sense. And what is usually on the screen at most parks are shots from the park of kids indifferently paying attention, standing adults in undersized shirts barely mouthing the words, interspersed sometimes with patriotic porn shots of eagles flying and majestic mountains, cutting back to partly filled seats, because a lot of folks are taking the national anthem as a cue that they game is going to start soon so they had better hurry up and get some food and beer and maybe hit the loo.
