Dude struck out 10 his last start, but got in the soup and was pulled after 85 pitches with one out to go in the fifth.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 27, 2025 Posted May 27, 2025 McNickens can actually play a little center!
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2025 Posted May 27, 2025 That one scared me, but McNeil reeled it in.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2025 Author Posted May 27, 2025 And Butto sets minds at ease with one pitch.I thought that was an easy out off the bat then I remembered: Wait, that's not Harrison Bader out there and it's not Tyrone Taylor ... it's Jeff McNeil!!But he got the job done even if with a couple fewer style points.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 27, 2025 Posted May 27, 2025 Turns out that Cannon is tougher and more resilient than folks give him credit for.[FIMG=600]https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2eSVsx8AWXvfxLWuO4zPQoZeYoKaz_yN5Iko4SPnFKPj0MQZpobmbH23ipeLIYVn_K1a-VM4yfVZ_o-Vg-2i6jDrp76-ITnBFvg8WHhCV3F20K4CUIfQVYUR5Gdx0figXJBvifDlpBjYEJKfvn7PkCbzkP_DCW8Vqf_L_IaPvtq6SgsiSyeo/s664/cannon-return.jpg[/FIMG]
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 27, 2025 Posted May 27, 2025 And Cannon is finally knocked from the game!Frankly, I'm surprised they even let him in the ballpark after what happened last time.https://www.sitcomsonline.com/photopost/data/3209/cannon_4.jpg>
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2025 Posted May 27, 2025 Butto has been awful. What happened to this guy.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2025 Posted May 27, 2025 Here we go! That Alvarez passed ball was embarrassing.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 27, 2025 Posted May 27, 2025 A pinch-running gig for Acoonie would be useful here.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 27, 2025 Posted May 27, 2025 Had Acconie stolen when Ronnie said, he might have scored here.Assuming he stole safely, of course.

But, Nimmo *did* reach second safely. The fact that he later retreated should be of no consequence. The only prohibitions on running the bases backwards is (a) for purposes of confusing the defense or ( to make a travesty of the game.

Sure, he'll join the team as a sixth starter but barring some obvious transformation into a good pitcher, it seems like he would be replaced when Montas/Manaea return.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 28, 2025 Author Posted May 28, 2025 Manaea is the only guy of those three who automatically slots in front of Megill in the pecking order and he could be the third of the three to return, he certainly won't be the first. So let's not fall victim to the 'backup QB' logic here and assume that the replacements we've yet to see throw a pitch are destined to be instant upgrades. And who knows what the situation will be when the first or any of that trio returns. These things sometimes have a way of working themselves out, sometimes positively, sometimes not.Right now Megill is pitching to a 3.5 ERA, a 1.36 WHIP and a K-rate a shade over 12/9 -- kind of the definition of a 3rd/4th starter at worst on most teams. He walks too many (as does the entire staff) and seems to lose effectiveness quickly at some point usually around the 5th or 6th but, as mentioned, it's not like there's an obvious better choice on hand on either the major or minor league level aside from Manaea and he's at least a month from being ready.
