metirish Old-Timey Member Posted June 18, 2025 Posted June 18, 2025 Alvarez can't be the #1 ,he's vile
DocTee Old-Timey Member Posted June 19, 2025 Posted June 19, 2025 In the preseason prediction thread (I think), I expressed concern that Vientos was headed for an Alvarezian 24 season.I would've hoped I was wrong or at least that Alvarez rebounded to his 2023 numbers. Having them both be this unproductive was not on my mind.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted June 19, 2025 Posted June 19, 2025 If Alvarez can't hit then what is he doing here?Another disappointment and yes Mike Vaccaro maybe 3A can tighten him upTorrens/Senger
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2025 Posted June 20, 2025 Many Mets fans on Twitter are looking to get Chavez, fired , they blame him for the offense
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2025 Posted June 20, 2025 Does Chavez get credit for the players who have improved their hitting this season [Pete, McN,Lindor] or just blame for the ones who didn't?Using secondary coaches as scape goats is a lame exercise most of the time. 'Hey, let's blame all those we have no emotional attachment to!'
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2025 Posted June 20, 2025 Of course Chavez doesn't get credit when the Mets are flying

'Hey, let's blame all those we have no emotional attachment to!'I think it was Bobby Valentine that had all of his coaching staff fired after a losing streak. It does seem like a very Wilpon thing to do. But that being said. Alonso is perhaps the biggest indictment of Chavez there is. The one guy who's having a great year and is producing with RISP is Pete. And it was recently revealed that he's using outside consultants provided by Boras Corp to help with his approach. It's the first year he's done this and the results are mind boggling. Terrible and flailing all year under the Mets instruction in 2024. MVP numbers once he goes outside the organization. McNeil too. Last year he famously ditched the Mets instruction and went back to his approach of just trying to hit the ball hard. And he's back to being productive. It doesn't necessarily mean that Chavez is terrible. But it doesn't look great. Outside of Pete and McNeil, Lindor has been his usual self. Torrens and Taylor have been as expected (not great). Marte has had a nice resurgence for an older player. So really the best argument you can make for Chavez is that Lindor has been terrific. On the negative side, just about everyone else has underperformed. Soto got off to a slow start, and is still having a down year. Nimmo, also a slow start and having a down year. Vientos and Alvarez have been terrible. Baty, Acuna and Mauricio have all played themselves out of playing time. Winker and Siri were bad in short stints before getting hurt. Is that enough to fire Chavez? Probably not. We don't know what's happening behind the scenes. But if you're judging based on results, there is very little to suggest he's doing a good job. Contrast that to the buzz around JD Martinez last year. The players raved about his insight and approach. Who know if it was real or not. But for me, I can't help but wonder.
