I had no idea, and was mildly surprised (and pleased) to find Luisangel was the all-purpose backup infielder, but now I'm thinking someone in the front office thought "Well, we know that Lindor will miss a day, and maybe more, in early April so we need a good backup shortstop for the first week of the season, and he's the only one we've got who can play a legit shortstop." In other words, it was really a done deal all along, barring injury and the like.

They had plenty of options if they were thinking Lindor's good for 162 but we need a 2b man. Baty's a lefty like McNeil, so he could fulfill his role just fine. Acuna's the only one, I think, who could step in at short (as he did in the fall). I'm just wondering if knowing that Lindor would miss a start or three, depending, in early April made their decision for them.
