roger_that Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2025 Posted April 2, 2025 ...that Acuna making the roster was influenced by the Mets knowing that Lindor's wife was expecting?I had no idea, and was mildly surprised (and pleased) to find Luisangel was the all-purpose backup infielder, but now I'm thinking someone in the front office thought "Well, we know that Lindor will miss a day, and maybe more, in early April so we need a good backup shortstop for the first week of the season, and he's the only one we've got who can play a legit shortstop." In other words, it was really a done deal all along, barring injury and the like.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2025 Posted April 2, 2025 I think it was more about McNeil than about Lindor.

Baty's a lefty like McNeil, so he could fulfill his role just fine. Acuna's the only one, I think, who could step in at short (as he did in the fall). I'm just wondering if knowing that Lindor would miss a start or three, depending, in early April made their decision for them.
