Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted March 6, 2025 Posted March 6, 2025 I don't imagine this will happen. But someone out there is saying we have Sonny Gray in our sights.https://www.newsweek.com/sports/mlb/mets-predicted-acquire-75-million-pitcher-before-trade-deadline-2037565#:~:text=Kerry%20Miller%20of%20Bleacher%20Report,the%202025%20MLB%20trade%20deadline.&text=%22Gray%20Ends%20Season%20With%3A%20New,York%20Mets%2C%22%20Miller%20wrote.https://www.newsweek.com/sports/mlb/mets-predicted-acquire-75-million-pitcher-before-trade-deadline-2037565#:~:text=Kerry%20Miller%20of%20Bleacher%20Report,the%202025%20MLB%20trade%20deadline.&text=%22Gray%20Ends%20Season%20With%3A%20New,York%20Mets%2C%22%20Miller%20wrote.
roger_that Old-Timey Member Posted March 7, 2025 Posted March 7, 2025 It was pointed out a few years ago that for some reason, he seemed to depress attendance in games where he was the announced starting pitcher. Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 7, 2025 Posted March 7, 2025 Not everybody can have a marquee name like "Blade Tidwell."My guess, though, is that the rotation just tended to break with him catching a lot of cold spring Tuesday evenings and hot summer Thursday afternoons.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted March 7, 2025 Posted March 7, 2025 He has $90 million due over the remaining three years of his contract. He's one of those rare starting pitchers listed as under 6 feet tall (5'10") but has shown to be durable, and his K/IP ratio is still outstanding. But at 35/36 years old, will he continue to be good enough to justify that commitment?https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/g/grayso01.shtmlhttps://www.baseball-reference.com/players/g/grayso01.shtmlLater
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted March 7, 2025 Posted March 7, 2025 I'm ok with some Pretend Reporter dude predicting in an article that Sonny Gray could go to the Mets. It's another thing when Newsweek (Newsweek?) makes an article about that. Before you know it it's on the Cranepool forum and people are talking about it.
