metirish Old-Timey Member Posted February 2, 2025 Posted February 2, 2025 Watching Japan V Puerto Rico , looks like a low quality TV production, unfortunately
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted February 2, 2025 Author Posted February 2, 2025 Rosters very light on guys I've ever heard of. Maybe I'm mixing this up with some other Latin American winter ball where good, current MLB players participate?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted February 2, 2025 Posted February 2, 2025 No, this is the big dance for winter ball.Escogido is representing the Dominican Winter League. In addition to Mets figures such as Robinson Canó, they include former big league dudes like Fernando Abad, Sócrates Brito, Alex Colomé, Johnny Cueto, and Francisco Mejía. Amazingly, they are managed by Alex Rodriguez, continuing his ongoing commitment to never go away.Venezuelan Alex Ramírez manages the Japanese entrant, a club called Japan Breeze, who I am less than familiar with apart from Ramírez, who played several years in Japan.Mayagüez, the entrant from the Puerto Rican Winter League, is managed by Wil Cordero, and features blink-and-you-missed-him 2024 Syracuse Met Eddie Rosario, along with Emmanuel Rivera and Henry Ramos. Puerto Rico historically tends to field more US-50-states-born players than the other teams, as Americans do not need a visa to winter there.Venezuelan entry Lara is managed by former Met Henry Blanco, and includes catcher Ali Sánchez, once a big shot Mets prospect who they let get away, along with Edwin Escobar, Alexi Amarista, and Hernán Pérez.Jalisco, the Mexican entrant, will be skippered by Benji Gil, and feature former Mets baserunning specialist Billy Hamilton, along with four-year-Mets-lefty-reliver Stephen Nogosek.Obviously, US-born players end up on Mexican Winter League rosters as well.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted February 2, 2025 Author Posted February 2, 2025 I did notice Rosario in the Japan/PR game today and recognized his Metliness.I feel like in years' past you'd see A list current Hispanic All Stars repping their nation. Not really catching that vibe this year.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted February 2, 2025 Posted February 2, 2025 I wasn't planning on watching this particular TOURNAMENT until learning that Eddie Rosario (did you say Eddie Rosario? Really? The Eddie Rosario?) is on the roster. Ay Caramba! Eddie Rosario is in the house. Eddie Rosario. Oy mi dios. Get me my tequila. La cucaracha! La Cucaracha!
