I think Duran surprised Marte there. Marte's throw was pretty relaxed (getting the ball in) rather than his usual gun when attempting to throw a runner out. Duran damn near made it.

Just noticed that Jarren Duran has a rather unusual grip on the bat. He interlocks the pinky of his top (left) hand between the index and middle finger of his bottom (right) hand. Similar to golf grip.
