Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2024 Posted August 18, 2024 There was a fully rested bullpen. Brazoban should not be in the circle of trust..
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 18, 2024 Posted August 18, 2024 I definitely agree.I also kind of think that Nimmo shouldn't have finished that at-bat.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2024 Posted August 18, 2024 Garrett was good in April. He's not good now.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 18, 2024 Posted August 18, 2024 That's getting overturned. THREE PICKOFFS!!
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 18, 2024 Posted August 18, 2024 It's nice to see Garrett getting that splitter working again, but he seems to get diminishing returns from it, the more he uses it. He may need to set it up with secondary pitches and save it for key spots.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2024 Posted August 18, 2024 (edited) Not the best throw to the plate by McNutty but if Alvarez doesn't muffthe tag he was out and it would still be 2-2. Edited August 18, 2024 by Guest
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2024 Posted August 18, 2024 More bullpen madness. Garrett faced four batters in the 8th and walked three of them.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 18, 2024 Posted August 18, 2024 That's a new standard for the BIGPURPLE button.Mets have Taylor-McNeil-Lindor-Vientos up in the ninth. Also, they've emptied their bench. Anybody gets hurt, we end up with Manaea or somebody on defense.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 18, 2024 Posted August 18, 2024 Iglesias isn't Mr. OMG. He's Mr. Infield Single.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 18, 2024 Posted August 18, 2024 First two guys reach, and McNeil is up in a bunting situation — and he usually is a pretty poor bunter.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2024 Posted August 18, 2024 I blame them for starting the inning with two on and none out. How many times have I said that it just kills their run production when that happens.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2024 Posted August 18, 2024 I really thought Lindor smoked that F-8 but assa baseball.ARI down a half dozen or so. ATL and SD start in a bit. Notthat I'm scoreboard watching in mid August...
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2024 Posted August 18, 2024 We don't lose games as much as we gift them to bad teams.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2024 Posted August 18, 2024 They showed a graphic on the SNY post game that had the walks issued by National League bullpens and guess what team tops the list. Don't cheat or use Stathead. Oh those bases on balls! -- Timmy

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2024 Posted August 18, 2024 So perusing the box score here, I see:- one run innings only- a HR, but a solo - 1-9 w/RiSP- out-hit the other side but didn't out-score them- a 3 walk inning for the winning run- a key late-inning GiDP to waste a leadoff runner as the tying run- a missed bunt so the following 400' fly ball couldn't produce a run- and two on w/no outs in the 9th but failed to score either much less bothiow, business as usual

I think this sort of thing goes higher up.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2024 Posted August 18, 2024 That was actually one of the situations where bunting was a reasonable option. You want two runs there but you NEED one so a bunt puts both in scoring position, eliminates the traditional GiDP, and forces Miami to bring the infield in for at least one hitter and maybe two. If successful (and assuming the pre-determined outcome) Lindor's FO easily ties the game and puts the winning run 90 ft away. The problem was in the execution, not the decision to try.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 18, 2024 Posted August 18, 2024 Or possibly, the lack of bunting instruction during development.
