You'd figure ol' Ralph Kiner must've hit one of those seven. Or if not Kiner, then surely Willie Stargell or Dave Parker. But no. The Pirates set that record yesterday against these Mets.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 6, 2024 Posted July 6, 2024 The Mets might well need a guy to pitch the ninth today.(Of course, they need guys to pitch the seventh and eighth first.)
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2024 Posted July 6, 2024 Tying run at the dish with one out in the 7th but, no worries, the Pirates aren't a HR-hitting team.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 6, 2024 Posted July 6, 2024 Also, suddenly Butto can't throw more than 16 pitches?

If not, he submits himself as a nominee. You can't get darker than a horse who is AAA-ing it for another organization at the start of the season
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 6, 2024 Posted July 6, 2024 I'll give Lindor a Gold Glove for that play alone.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 6, 2024 Posted July 6, 2024 Two VERY generous strike calls for Garrett.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2024 Posted July 6, 2024 I would have gotten tossed if I were the Bucco mgr in that situation too.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2024 Posted July 6, 2024 We're obviously going to Diaz for the 9th, but after 3 outs on 8 pitches I'd rather stick with Nunez
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 6, 2024 Posted July 6, 2024 Absolutely, I'd plan to stick with Dedniel to open the ninth.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 6, 2024 Posted July 6, 2024 Of course, I would have stuck with Boots, so I had little hope that they'd stick with Dedniel.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2024 Posted July 6, 2024 I think we often overdo the bullpen second guessing here (it's the low hanging fruit of fan complaints) but I'm with them here. It's looks for all the world than Mendoza pre-decided how the back half of the game was going to play out regardless of how each pitcher's outing fared. So I think he cut Butto short. That caused him to go to Garrett when he didn't need to (with near-disastrous results), and is nowcutting Nunez short so as to bring in the closer. I understand wanting to get Diaz in after the long layoff but that doesn't meanthe steps leading up to that needs to all be pre-determined.* cross-posted with above
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 6, 2024 Posted July 6, 2024 6-4-3.I like Slow McCutcheon better than Fast McCutcheon.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2024 Posted July 6, 2024 A decade ago the 2nd baseman doesn't even make the relay cuz McCutcheon would have already been past the bag.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2024 Posted July 6, 2024 Welcome back, Edwin! Book-a-doodles and all that jazz...
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2024 Posted July 6, 2024 Nice to have Diaz back, and looking good
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2024 Posted July 6, 2024 I'll be very happy if Butto gets a lot of "vulture" wins, a la Phil Regan. That seems to be his new role. But, damn, why can't the starters go five?Later
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 6, 2024 Posted July 6, 2024 They can.And the relievers can go two and three.
