The most HR's the Pirates ever hit in a single game was seven. You'd figure ol' Ralph Kiner must've hit one of those seven. Or if not Kiner, then surely Willie Stargell or Dave Parker. But no. The Pirates set that record yesterday against these Mets.

I think we often overdo the bullpen second guessing here (it's the low hanging fruit of fan complaints) but I'm with them here.

It's looks for all the world than Mendoza pre-decided how the back half of the game was going to play out regardless of how

each pitcher's outing fared.

So I think he cut Butto short. That caused him to go to Garrett when he didn't need to (with near-disastrous results), and is now

cutting Nunez short so as to bring in the closer. I understand wanting to get Diaz in after the long layoff but that doesn't mean

the steps leading up to that needs to all be pre-determined.
