Nothing beats Mother's Day at the ballpark! I mean, probably not, but ... I don't really know, not being a mother and all. Maybe mothers hate coming out to the ballpark after church and brunch. But whether the game is joyous or torment to your typical mum, ESPN cares not, so our Sunday afternoon game is going to be played seven hours after noon.



Twenty-four-year-old righty Bryce Elder goes for the Braves, having not yet found the form that made him effective last season. Luiss Severinno goes for the Mets, coming off a remarkable eight innings of one-hit ball against the Cubs.

Time to place your bets on how many minutes of game time will be seen on a shrunken screen while ESPN opts instead to more prominently show

the guy being interviewed about the ongoing game at the expense of showing the actual game itself.

When there are two outs and the bases loaded in the first, I don't think I need a constant update in the guy's pitch count. If he's up to 40 after a batter reaches base, sure, spring it on me while we wait for the next guy to come up, but pitch counts have become so ubiquitous that the automatic story for first half of a game seemingly has to be the starting pitcher deathwatch, even as a very-high-leverage at-bat is coming to its conclusion.

A while back I posed a question as to which Marlin OF cast-off would turn out to have the better rest of his career, Yelich or Giancarlo Stanton

The answer is now becoming clear, it's Marcel Ozuna.

OK that's the short term answer right now but it is becoming a three man race particularly as the other two are far removed from their peaks.

I thought they'd be so frustrated after yesterday's pathetic showing, they'd come out like they were on fire and pile up the runs.
