The Mets, suddenly rich with lefthanded rotation options, throw José Quintana against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Harrison Bader gets out of the nine-hole for a night. Jeff McNeil is rumored to have fallen in the forest, but as no one has heard a sound, this cannot be confirmed.

No broadcasting this evening. You'll have to follow along online. Or not.

Mets fall in order in the first. Cardinals stink.

Special Roster guests this evening include reliever Nolan Clenney, who gave up only one run in nine innings in the Arizona Fall League, striking out 13, and shortstop D'Andre Smith, who played in 64 games with Brooklyn last season before also heading to Arizona.

I'm not even getting a live data feed, so Gameday doesn't really work.

Mets have loaded the bases in the top of the fourth. Refresh, refresh, refresh ... .

Down 4-1, top of the seventh.

All four charged to Joey.

The Mets have two hits, and if you guessed that Zack Short would have half of them, please pick up your prize at the front desk.

I was at the game. It was quite dull. I didn't even know who Nolan Clenney was. I should have checked with Edgy.

I talked about it here:

(They played WSH but the thread as them playing STL.)

It was Lucchesi's first outing of the spring, so I'm chalking it up to him being behind. He's a relatively soft thrower, so not yet having his feel wouldn't leave him with much. They had the lowest starter ERA in Florida, and that was before Q put up four more goose eggs.

The offense is a much bigger concern, and they look more like the feast-or-famine 2023 version of the team rather than the keep-the-line-moving 2022 edition.

McNeil took live BP before the game, but there's no prediction on when he'll see game action after he was shut down over the weekend.

This has me anxious. Watching them play all year waiting for the nine run homer that never came. Tough to watch 6-7 days a week

Having a manager who comes out of Yankee Stadium makes me fear that sort of strategizing even more.

The notion that Brandon Nimmo spent a good part of last season openly trading on-base percentage for more power and more strikeouts, and seems to talk about it like it was a success story really chills me.
