Time's up! Our Royal interloper is the recently deceased Dennis Ribant, pictured below on a 1969 Topps baseball card. Ribant was the first player ever to appear on a Topps baseball card in a Royals uniform. Ribant was sold to the expansion Royals and participated in their inaugural Spring Training. Ribant didn't know it at the time, but when the photograph for his 1969 Topps card was taken, Ribant had already pitched in his last major league baseball game.

In my mind, Ribant is forever linked with Ron Piche because they followed each other on the Braves roster in Baseball Digest.

When the Mets got him, I looked at their roster to see his stats and there was Piche's name too.
