And so even though he gets the 3rd out w/o a run, those non-calls are part of the reason he's over 80 pitches thru 4

I've seen this many batters hit in a game before, but I'm pretty certain I haven't seen a single pitcher hit this many batters while pitching a shutout.

The thing about that dropped popup is that I didn't see Alonso helping Álvarez out.

3 singles + 4 HBPs = 0 runs due, in large part, to 3 GIDPs



Someone likely has devised a stat which doesn't merely count GIDPs but tallies them as a percentage of GIDP opportunities.

And while I know it's possibly just a case of observational bias, I'm betting that the '23 NYM would be real high on that scale.

This was/is an important game. It was the difference between winning 7 of 8 and having the 6-game winning streak feel like an aberration. It was the difference between momentum and confidence and neither of those. We had an alleged big-game pitcher on the mound and he failed. Maybe the injury and Buck's needless challenge hurt him but he should have been able to overcome both. This game was the difference between "are you saying there's a chance?" and "who can we trade?"
