Braves are in Cleveland and just failed to score in the 10th even with the clown car rules (inning ended on an 8 - 2 FO-DP)

Guardians batting bottom 10, 1st & 2nd after an IW ... and they just Sac-bunted into a 1-6-4 DP !!!

And the [CROSSOUT]Indi[/CROSSOUT]Guardians win it with a two out RBI 2B handing the Braves their first loss in 11 games.

It's only ten games so far but Daniel Muffy is slashing .342/.413/.488 with AAA Salt Lake City. That follows 37 games with the L.I. Ducks where he racked up a .331/.410/.451 line.

And y'know Mike Trout is on the shelf for a while.

Just sayin'

Pete may be an All-star but he won't face Ohtani. He got a blister last night, so he won't be pitching.

Murph retired three years ago, when he was "just" 35. Pretty young age to retire from the show for a player of his caliber, barring injuries that prevent a player from playing at major-league level.

Murphy did say that he retired due to injury(ies) -- knee(s) IIRC -- not because he felt like he could no longer play.

I guess they feel better after a couple years off.

And it's another day so the Braves put up a four run 1st.

That's now 91 1st inning runs in 86 games, a rate which projects to slightly over 9.5 R/G or a bit higher than the avg total of both teams combined in a full game.

Mets, btw, still stuck 23 1st inning runs, or less than 2.5 R/G

An air-mailed throw from the Baltimore SS sailed into the NYY dugout and beaned a YES cameraman delaying the game for some 15 minutes as medical people attended to him before eventually stretchering him out.

Only half-watching and with the sound off so not sure if there's been any updates in the hour or so since it happened.

4-2 O's in bottom 7

The beaned cameraman is also a mets shooter, lots of thoughts and prayers posts on Twitter

Yeah, he's the father half of the pere and fils pair of roving cameramen that SNY did a short feature on last week.

Tonight he was on a stationary camera at the far end of the NYY dugout.

Gary Apple reporting cameraman Pete Stendel to have suffered an orbital fracture and is now resting at home.

Gunnar Henderson, clearly upset after having hit a cameraman in the face, got the day off today.

Just kidding. He's four-for-four in the first four innings, with two homers.

Phils score three in the top of the 9th, two on a two out Christian Pache 2R HR, to beat the Marlins 4-3.

Two quirky stats connected with this game

- it 'dropped' the Marlins to only 12 games above .500 and to 15-7 in one run games this year. For all their success in 2023, they actually have a negative run differential (-11) while the Mets have a positive (+1)

- it was the phils 13th straight road win

Braves beat the Rays, who are coming off getting swept by Philly, 2-1

So no five run 1st tonight just, y'know, a win.

Yanx are in the midst of getting one hit thru 8 by the Cubs and by Yanqui cast-off Jameison Taillon

3-0 going to bottom 9

Tampa looked as unbeatable early in the season as the Braves look now, but their lead over the [CROSSOUT]Yankees[/CROSSOUT] [CROSSOUT]Red Sox[/CROSSOUT] [CROSSOUT]Blue Jays[/CROSSOUT] ORIOLES(!!) is now down to three games.

TBR thru May 8th = 29-7 (so, yeah, about the same as Atlanta's 27-5 since May 31 )

Since 5/8 (which started with two straight losses to BAL) = 28-27

Braves actually went 9-up/9-down over the first 3 innings of tonight's game (and in the time it took me to type that sentence they've scored four in the 4th to lead 4-0)

Catcher Sean Murphy, who hit 18 HRs and a a 759 OPS in 612 PAs last year, now has [CROSSOUT]75[/CROSSOUT] 17 HRs/1000 in just 268 this season, his first with ATL
