Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 10, 2023 Posted July 10, 2023 Do-ya-do-ya think the pitch clock will be enforced for the All-Star Game?
cal sharpie Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2023 Posted July 10, 2023 And will they check pitcher's hands and give 'em a 10-game suspension if too sticky?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 10, 2023 Posted July 10, 2023 I bet he'd win if Max Scherzer pitched to him.ZING!!
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2023 Posted July 10, 2023 You are correctThe substitute pitcher could not get it in the wheelhouse consistentlyJulio Rodriguez crushed it with 41. Like a machine. Pete closed with 21 or so
metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2023 Posted July 10, 2023 I think maybe I know why the Mets offense might be struggling, if he's the bp pitcher.
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2023 Posted July 10, 2023 That was a microcosm of the whole season so far. High expectations. Lots of hype. Mediocre results.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2023 Posted July 11, 2023 I just watched the Pete round. I don't really care much for the HR Derbythese days but geez 'substitute pitcher' should be exiled to Gilligan's Island. No Mary Ann, no Ginger. Lovey's cabana boy might be too good for him...
metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2023 Posted July 11, 2023 this year really was an argument for implementing a pitching machine into the home run derby. the variability in pitcher quality is enormous, and you could basically guess the winner each round just by watching the pitches thrown. j-rod beat pete by having a guy throwing on automatic, delivering nice flat fat pitches with an outstanding tempo directly into his wheelhouse. pete's pitches were delivered at a halting inconsistent pace, and all over the plate. not as bad as mookie betts' pitcher - sheesh, talk about being set up to fail! was he even briefed on there being a time limit?? - but after him, pete had the worst thrower in the first round, by far.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2023 Posted July 11, 2023 (edited) I agree. I watched the Alonso/JRod round. It was the only round I watched. I knew for sure that Pete had no chance after seeing just two or three of his pitcher's deliveries. He took too long to throw his pitches. Big fucking wind-up. JRod's pitcher, by contrast, was a goddam machine. The contest shouldn't hinge on the quality of the pitcher. Either get a pitching machine or give each batter a finite # of swings. And the format sucked because you couldn't even see the HRs or the flight of the batted ball. What then, is the point? Edited July 11, 2023 by Guest
metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2023 Posted July 11, 2023 i'd love to see a tracer follow the ball on each hit. and then keep that tracer up for the entire at bat. show me where he's been hitting 'em! and you can show me some cool notable hits from the competition, too. we have the technology, and screens are big enough to show it all. DO IT!
