New month

Maybe a positive July surprise after a dismal June

Justin Verlander goes against Anthony DeScalfani today at 4:05

That thing where the Mets sat Marte? And they didn't use him to pinch-hit medium-late in the game when they could have used him? Because they seemingly wanted to give him a "full" day off? But then they pinch-ran-him the ninth? And he ended up getting caught stealing? And upending their last, best threat? And ending their utterly inconsequential-but-curiously-novel streak of consecutive stolen bases?

Well, maybe that wasn't really a thing. But now they're sitting him again. So maybe now it's a thing.

Yeah, Marte has looked out of sorts for a while, don't want to say he looked lazy at times in the field but he kinda did

A swoon reminds me of gently fainting.

June was a fucking face plant.

Let's kick some ass starting in July.

I had read* that as hitters get older, they have a tough time against a variety of pitches.. So they concentrate on hitting one particular pitch (fastball, curve or slider) and swinging at it. It could be that he has decided that the slider is his pitch, but if he is having trouble hitting it, it might be the time to take up golf.

* = one of the Brosnan books? Ball Four ?

I've kind of been in an unwitting -3 mindset. A two-run lead feels like a one-run deficit; a three-run lead feels like a tie; a one-run deficit feels like a four-run deficit; etc.

So, a four-run lead feels like a ... lead!

I mean, it just feels like a one-run lead, but it's a lead!

And, as Gary mentioned a bit earlier today, the Mets held three run leads in five of the Joon Swoon* losses.

So it's a clock violation unless you start your motion before time runs out.

And yet Manaea starting his motion within time even though he didn't finish it.

Not quite sure how they justify that interpretation of the new rules.

Yeah, that should be considered a ball, but because him releasing it should make it a legal pitch — not because of the clock.

But, pre-pitch clock, it was considered a nothing burger so long as the bases were empty.

With runner(s) on it's obviously a balk and still would be.
