Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 1, 2023 Posted July 1, 2023 That thing where the Mets sat Marte? And they didn't use him to pinch-hit medium-late in the game when they could have used him? Because they seemingly wanted to give him a "full" day off? But then they pinch-ran-him the ninth? And he ended up getting caught stealing? And upending their last, best threat? And ending their utterly inconsequential-but-curiously-novel streak of consecutive stolen bases?Well, maybe that wasn't really a thing. But now they're sitting him again. So maybe now it's a thing.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2023 Posted July 1, 2023 Yeah, Marte has looked out of sorts for a while, don't want to say he looked lazy at times in the field but he kinda did

MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2023 Posted July 1, 2023 I had read* that as hitters get older, they have a tough time against a variety of pitches.. So they concentrate on hitting one particular pitch (fastball, curve or slider) and swinging at it. It could be that he has decided that the slider is his pitch, but if he is having trouble hitting it, it might be the time to take up golf.Later* = one of the Brosnan books? Ball Four ?
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2023 Posted July 1, 2023 Grateful for a barbecue later so I don't have to watch.I need about 80 more barbecues, though.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 1, 2023 Posted July 1, 2023 Why is Baty taking so much time to throw to first?Oh, right, Wilmer running.

metirish Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2023 Posted July 1, 2023 Mets Nice catch by Matos to rob Pham of extra bases
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2023 Posted July 1, 2023 Holy crap , Lindor goes deep ( I'm not making this up)
whippoorwill Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2023 Posted July 1, 2023 Sounds like it's getting exciting!
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2023 Posted July 1, 2023 Excited to see how they manage to lose today
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 1, 2023 Posted July 1, 2023 I've kind of been in an unwitting -3 mindset. A two-run lead feels like a one-run deficit; a three-run lead feels like a tie; a one-run deficit feels like a four-run deficit; etc.So, a four-run lead feels like a ... lead!I mean, it just feels like a one-run lead, but it's a lead!

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2023 Posted July 1, 2023 So it's a clock violation unless you start your motion before time runs out.And yet Manaea starting his motion within time even though he didn't finish it.Not quite sure how they justify that interpretation of the new rules.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 1, 2023 Posted July 1, 2023 Yeah, that should be considered a ball, but because him releasing it should make it a legal pitch — not because of the clock.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2023 Posted July 1, 2023 But, pre-pitch clock, it was considered a nothing burger so long as the bases were empty. With runner(s) on it's obviously a balk and still would be.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 1, 2023 Posted July 1, 2023 Alonso is probably never gonna appear at third.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2023 Posted July 1, 2023 Squeaky bum time here , running out of gas
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2023 Posted July 1, 2023 I'm sure I wasn't the only one to say 'here we go' following the Alonso error.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2023 Posted July 1, 2023 And the 'Vanilla Cone' strikeout ends the inning.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 1, 2023 Posted July 1, 2023 Of course, when the lead closes to 4–1, it feels like a tie.
