The New York Mets return to Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum, or whatever they're calling it now, to face the 2023 Oakland Athletics, managed by Mark Kotsay. Touch me in the morning on the road to Shambala as you chase the possums out of the press box while former Yankees top pick James Kaprielian takes the mound against Kodai Senga. It's Treehouse Happy Hour Night at the ballpark.

With the Mets not managing to put together an Alltimer's Day (that's what I'm callin' it until it sticks) for 2023, we're looking at a lost (and possibly last) opportunity to honor the 1973 Mets, but the A's are putting together a shindig for the Championship team on Friday, and with Seaver and Staub and Berra gone, that might have made a good time to gather together any available Mets pennant winners. If Willie Mays was ever going to appear in a Mets cap again, that would be it.

But that's all a matter for Sunday. Friday night's game starts at 9:40 ET. Get your rest, and remember to text Francisco Lindor and tell him to keep his fingers away from doors.

Of the players who appeared in the 1973 World Series for the Mets, these players are still living:

Ken Boswell, Wayne Garrett, Jerry Grote, Don Hahn, Bud Harrelson, Ron Hodges, Cleon Jones, Jerry Koosman, Ed Kranepool, Ted Martinez, Jon Matlack, Willie Mays, Felix Millan, George Stone, George Theodore.

And these players are not:

The modern-day A's just lost in walkoff fashion at Camden Yards. Let's hope they will need the next three days to shake off their blues.

We took two of three there last September but the one 'L' was (IMO) the single biggest disappointing loss of the year (regular season version anyway).

NYM bats, who rarely give deGrom anything, handed him a three run lead before he even took the mound against one of the worst hitting teams in O.B.

(Organized Baseball as they put it in BALL FOUR) and he not only gave it all back he gave it back before getting out of the 1st inning. The result was his

worst start of the year (maybe in several years!!) and what looked like the closest thing you can get to a sure thing in baseball turned into a debacle in a

month where the reversal of just one single loss would have changed the entire playoff route for the team.

Bassitt (who I don't think is making this particular road trip) and Scherzer won the other two games in romps [9-2 and 12-4] but the Braves were in the

midst of a sweep so we actually lost a game on our lead that weekend [from +2.5 to +1.5]

Álvarez ain't DH'd yet. I think Buck is reluctant to take plate appearances away from Pham because Narváez got hurt.

Speaking of Syracuse, Bret Baty just hit a grand slam homer.

Just sayin'.

I'm not getting the picture, mlb.tv is just giving me a radio feed. How disappointing.

It's very sunny and sparsely attended

Escobar hit it hard but another out for him, dang.

On SNY they are talking about an Opposum that lives in the away tv booth, kicking the Mets broadcasters out today! was the rodent planted by A's ownership as part of their "we need a new stadium"

push? Well, we can't say it wasn't.

Just like the KTE thread suggested. Wait these guys out.

Marte showed the patience to draw a second RBI walk in a row and then Lindor sits on one
