G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2022 Posted August 21, 2022 The classic third catcher in two-catcher times has been claimed off waivers by the Giants. His specialty was hitting them twenty feet and winning games.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2022 Posted August 21, 2022 He had a fun last name. Not as fun as Zastryzny, but fun nonetheless.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2022 Posted August 21, 2022 Got a lot of attention for walk-off fielders' choices in 2021, but his biggest moment probably was a big go-ahead homer against the Mariners in May this year.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 21, 2022 Posted August 21, 2022 Did not successfully steal the nickname Maz from Lee Mazzilli. Kind of tall and skinny for a catcher but his shaved-head-and-beard look showed how committed he was to the position. Was maddeningly consistent, hitting .190 with 1 homer and six RBI in 2021, and .191 with 1 homer and six RBI in 2021. His minor league record suggests he has a strong offensive profile than that, but those numbers make me think he needs nine more seasons to reach .200.I suspect the Mets suspected he was going to be claimed, but the role of catcher-of-the-future was taken.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 22, 2022 Posted August 22, 2022 That card makes me want to name the Bench Player of the Month Award after him.But of course it should be named after Rusty Staub.
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted August 22, 2022 Posted August 22, 2022 Seemed like a decent guy, but he was never going to be the answer at catcher. Master of the 60 foot fielders choice ground out.
