Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 16, 2022 Posted May 16, 2022 James McCann, Mets #1 catcher, it seems you have found yourself disabled on I-96, somewhere between Grand Rapids and Detroit. There are Mets guys in Michgan looking for you, man. You need to get it goin'.https://www.google.com/maps/vt/data=RZDboYfVZOrj-OpMwUSsg5rdRQHv8fKgCdt8FwDJxeW84YMfcEPAu5j5RF8tUO-6Y07czn9cwXdy-mHYr3dX9JMfNd2QY_m8-jW5n6yajzeOD_dmEunyVguJVrU-9ZdpGC3hG-x6vSX9afbikJrlnqCybhiECCvDHI4FwXQTgo3tywA2kOY6wYsVsbuLJKVuzQITJItqoU6LQJ4bktgKZhxLoEeZu1YLTVRSDvP4Q6DpDXP5JqZxsz2kND1BWI4Rdg>Robinson Canó, recently a DH and secondbaseman for the Mets, your car has been found abandoned on I-95, perhaps not far from Baltimore. It's unlikely that you will ever reclaim it, but that abandoned husk leaves a sad and sorry monument in the midst of what might otherwise be a glorious season.https://www.google.com/maps/vt/data=MD4dX1kO8Z8wQ0KvvLMr5nQC3mIeeycmeLut90CSw9-NWzjXQ1iCBrAKARD5icfsMY5iz6uxv_jqqp-ULDDffE4I2FDhcw5Lnv0AVpdI3jmi4q5gE6e-a3lGfi7Mzaffn9p50ypc4rqgcuBWtL-mnBOOFZV9os-Eqh-ECuzTyNDr7F1v4NsHXwHvRRoz2XqWklOjyeg5On3IRIpk8vAksU5PuLPP1WmWkF1Di0J2PXfAFH4>Dom Smith, last seen rambling across the Appalachian highlands on I-77, 36% of your hits thus far have come in a single game. I feel for you and your lack of playing time. I need you to feel something for me and get off the damn interstate.https://www.google.com/maps/vt/data=b-z3Mkr4_9IHH7x3uI4yDsoBOxwv74rluXzD6-J5pxtO1qVAof-Tx5c5t0ungFjt6dOop_0TDMH5POBxoRRA_ARg6TMqXIxbTUBtzKKf5KHd7F57aZSQjYS0mjSlUpHU1B16EtOu5sOfPTTYHzwX6Wo22jLlcPneCQV7j3gEq25CTQh_rFsK65n566PMTkdNJ_VsuhXA6_LIcmfWt2gdClCjSBSl9lmdEJfqBoh1n8-GYVnvAhDNfkcE90lRrctB>Lastly, Nick Plummer, who hit the ball hard in your one trip to the plate — stay ready and sharp and prepared to do some internet exiting as soon as you return![FIMG=450]https://i.pinimg.com/originals/d8/75/51/d87551232cc9062b9281faaa5475dae9.jpg[/FIMG]It's mid-May, fellas!
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2022 Posted May 18, 2022 Forget the Mendoza Line.McCann has flatlined. He'll need some serious CPR (or electric shock) when he gets back from the IL.Later
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2022 Posted May 18, 2022 Having taken McCann's route many times, I can share there are many nice things to do -- once you get off the Interstate!
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 18, 2022 Author Posted May 18, 2022 A 2-5 Tuesday has brought Dom Smith a little over 400 miles eastward onto I-97, tearing ass through Anne Arundel County, Maryland, toward Annapolis.Annapolis is a nice place, Dom. It's a nice place to exit and never get back on.https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-IBeBJZn_AWs/YVEnmuJsgnI/AAAAAAABhcA/VrstwICaAn83NCGv6XGXlMALCuzr3PO1wCNcBGAsYHQ/s702/I70.png>
vtmet7 Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2022 Posted May 18, 2022 Not sure where I should ask this question but...I have noticed over the years, that the Mets tend to only hit well in Queens when the weather is warmer...So my question is: Is there a place to find splits based on weather/temperature conditions?
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2022 Posted May 18, 2022 Not sure where I should ask this question but...I have noticed over the years, that the Mets tend to only hit well in Queens when the weather is warmer...So my question is: Is there a place to find splits based on weather/temperature conditions? Some box scores carry the game time temperature, but I'm not sure if that is captured anywhere on a database you could sort.I remember hearing the terms "hot weather hitter" or "He'll start to get hot when the weather does" going back to the 1950's and it probably goes back earlier than that. It may be because it is easier to get loose when you are warm, muscles tighten up when cold. But I'd also imagine there are studies about the ball carrying better in hot, humid weather. And those you might be able to find, perhaps a SABR study or a Baseball Prospectus article.Good luck finding them.In the meantime, I'll just enjoy the way Edgy is presenting this.Later
Chad ochoseis Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2022 Posted May 18, 2022 You could probably just compare April stats to August stats and get a good proxy. You'd have other early season vs late season issues as confounding factors, but you'd have that even if you found pure weather based stats, since bad weather is going to be correlated with the early part of the season. This could go in its own thread; don't want to hijack Edgy's maps.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2022 Posted May 18, 2022 Some of it has to be the wind. Wind all over the northeast has been kinda nutty thisyear and the wind in Flushing can be downright brutal in April and May.Even more off topic, there is a pub in Annapolis that has some of the best seafood chowder on the planet. At least my planet. You can get red or white or a combo ofboth. The few times I've been there I just got both. Mouth is watering thinkin of it.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 18, 2022 Author Posted May 18, 2022 Dom stopped off in Annapolis for some chowder and then got off the interstate there with a .203 average!https://s3-media0.fl.yelpcdn.com/bphoto/Vpgm2o7qOg8wXU4xvR6Bhg/l.jpg>James McCann and his wounded hamate are next.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 21, 2022 Author Posted May 21, 2022 An oh-for-four in game one sends Dom Smith back to Northern New England where he's cruising a stretch called Stud Mill Road, part of a proposed thoroughfare across Northern New England, tentatively designated as I-92.Get off of that shit, Dom. Stud Mill Road is ... for studs.https://multifiles.pressherald.com/uploads/sites/2/2013/04/EastWest.highway.2.jpg>

I had never heard of the proposed I-92 until then...Anyone else notice that they drew I-87 in Vermont, instead of New York?Kind of funny timing on seeing this: my wife and I just traveled from northern Vermont to Maine this week for our 30th anniversary and there is really no good way to get to Maine from northern Vermont. Didn't realize that we were significantly north of our destination...I saw the GPS route as we were traveling and it wanted us to head towards Boston, which initially made no sense to me.Here is what I found about this proposed highway...apparently they had a lot of ideas dating as far back as 1944, and none of them took off...http://www.bostonroads.com/roads/I-92/http://www.bostonroads.com/roads/I-92/
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 24, 2022 Posted May 24, 2022 That a road taking that route would be part of the Interstate Highway system smacks of the state trying grab federal dollars for what would essentially be a local road.Once you get that far north in Maine there's about 50 people who live there.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 24, 2022 Author Posted May 24, 2022 Well, other versions have the road indeed crossing northern New Hampshire and Vermont.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2022 Posted May 25, 2022 Oh, as long as it's going to go through those densely populated regions then it'll certainly be worth dumptrucks full of cash.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 6, 2022 Author Posted September 6, 2022 McCann up with two out in the ninth looking to exit the Interstate in September.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted September 7, 2022 Posted September 7, 2022 When Nido is your better hitting catching alternative, you know you have a problem.Later
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 7, 2022 Author Posted September 7, 2022 McCann up at [CROSSOUT].205![/CROSSOUT] .203!!
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 7, 2022 Author Posted September 7, 2022 Next up is Robinson Canó (.195), who needs to be re-signed, and Dom Smith (.194) who needs to be called up.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 4, 2022 Author Posted October 4, 2022 Francisco Álvarez — suddenly a .200 hitter!
