Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2022 Posted May 4, 2022 Ugh, the O-man walks in a run. I feel like maybe that's the first time all season that a Mets pitcher has walked in a run with the bases loaded? I cannot hardly recall it happening previously.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 4, 2022 Posted May 4, 2022 Ottavino breaking this game open, sadly. This was probably May's game to pitch, but we seem to have gone to Otto one time too many.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2022 Posted May 4, 2022 There seems to be a good reason why Otto shouldn't pitch for a 3d straight day.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2022 Posted May 4, 2022 A Jim Beam and Ginger sounds pretty good. Sadly, I have neither...
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2022 Posted May 4, 2022 I am very puzzled by Ottavino as the first call to the bullpen. If you're Buck, and this is a high leverage situation that calls for a “circle of trust” reliever, then you need to use Lugo.If you're Buck and this is you're “the guy who needs work pitches” then you go to Williams or Medina from the start. No situation seems to justify Ottavino.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 4, 2022 Posted May 4, 2022 Credit to Acuña, my buttocks. The Mets gakked.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2022 Posted May 4, 2022 I'd say this went to shit in a hurry, but I think Atlanta has been up for like 45 minutes now. It's like it all went to shit in a slow-motion hurry.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2022 Posted May 4, 2022 Should the Mets fail to come back, this would be the first series of the year that they did not win.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 4, 2022 Posted May 4, 2022 OK, Mets batting finally happening here. One run home.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 4, 2022 Posted May 4, 2022 Smith should totally be hitting for Luis here.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2022 Posted May 4, 2022 I thought Escobar could/should have been on 3rd after his hit got kicked around in the RF corner. If he did he'd have scored on the IF hit. It's too early still to play so conservatively. Chip away. You don't need all 7 runs this inning.

Liking the Ottavino slider is fine if he hadn't thrown in each of the past 2 games. Lugo is pretty good against righties too and wasn't gassed. From April 25 through today, May 4, Lugo pitched 2.2 innings, with 23 total pitches. He had capacity and Ottavino did not.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 4, 2022 Posted May 4, 2022 Swinging at garbage ain't going to get anybody back into this game.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2022 Posted May 4, 2022 Re: Ottavino, Gary or Todd said earlier that was the first time the Mets useda reliever three games in a row. I'll give Buck the benefit of the doubt as I'm sure he knew that and an oh well...Re: Game, (currently 9-1 in the 8th) I guess if you're gonna shit the bed forthe first time this season might as well get it all out before hitting the road.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2022 Posted May 4, 2022 We're not actually going to lose this game ... because it's never going to end.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 4, 2022 Posted May 4, 2022 Hanging onto Dom until he gets up with bases empty, two outs, against a lefty isn't going to get it done either.

He's been a great addition to the rotation, but he works VERY deliberately when there are runners on base.Hey, we just gave up the DH! There's an outside, outside chance we'll get a pitcher batting this game!

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 4, 2022 Posted May 4, 2022 Well, the win-every-single-series streak dies, but the lose-not-a-single-series lives on past May 4.
