Edgy MD Site Manager Posted February 10, 2022 Posted February 10, 2022 I hate asking the question, but the question must be asked. Assuming that the season starts on time, but greater powers haven't intervened to make the designated hitter just not happen, what's your plan for getting that 10th bat in the lineup?Canó is your DH? (This would presumably leave McNeil and Escobar second and third respectively.)Smith and Alonso alternate between first and DH? (This would take Smitty out of the outfield mix and leave Nimmo, Davis, and Cahna sharing the corners with Marte in the middle.)Davis is your DH? (This would take perhaps your best outfield arm off of defense and leave you just a little thin out there, but there could be some useful guys coming up to help in the outfield soon.)I think, for the Mets, those three are probably plans A, B, and C, in order, but who knows if the roster is yet complete. I'm just not sure how full-timey they see Cahna as being.
duan Old-Timey Member Posted February 11, 2022 Posted February 11, 2022 To my mind it's fairly simple - but all this could change new signings/tradesYou see DH as a rotation between Davis & Smith. Alonso will pick up some games there too as I think you want Smith still getting 20-30 games at 1b. I don't believe Robinson Cano will contribute anything meaningful.
duan Old-Timey Member Posted February 11, 2022 Posted February 11, 2022 Davis/Smith will spot time as corner OFs and Davis @ 3b.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted February 11, 2022 Posted February 11, 2022 The important thing is that it'll be stupid, because it's the DH. You can't spell DUH without DH (someone check my spelling on that please).
