G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2021 Posted November 11, 2021 Original FANner (and MLBS) Steve Somers does his final regular shift Friday night 11 to 2, then a 1-hour farewell for the awake crowd this Monday at 1 PM. He's been nudged into retirement by a station that wishes to be less listenable than it already is.
Methead Old-Timey Member Posted November 12, 2021 Posted November 12, 2021 If he started a podcast, I'd listen to it.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted November 12, 2021 Posted November 12, 2021 I wish I never discovered what he looked like irl. I can't explain why but I was disappointed by seeing him
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted November 12, 2021 Posted November 12, 2021 Nearly thirty-five years of me-here you-there. Saddened by this. Don't know thedetails but fuck WFAN/CBS anyways just because.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted November 12, 2021 Posted November 12, 2021 My tolerance for him was limited -- his shtick didn't bother me but that only gets you so far-- but he had a unique niche on that station and it's too bad it's ending.
Bob Alpacadaca Old-Timey Member Posted November 12, 2021 Posted November 12, 2021 One of the neat things about radio is you have to imagine what the person looks like. I saw Sommers' photo for the first time recently, and would never have imagined that's what he looked like. My mental photo had a lot less hair. All the best to him in what comes next!
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted November 12, 2021 Posted November 12, 2021 There was nothing better than listening to the Schmooze driving home from Shea/Citi after a Met win. Even better if it was a day where the Yankees lost. We'll always be on the other side of the glass.
