I'm guessing there's something to learn with regard to the premature start to Baez's offseason. He didn't pinch-hit yesterday either, and in the final innings, he didn't seem to be preparing to, either.

In all seriousness, as great as it is to win the last game of the year, I wonder if the home run and good feelings from the end of 2019 (winning record, strong second half performance) muddied the waters regarding the talent gap between the Mets and other teams. 2020 and 2021 have both been disappointing steps backward from that 86 win team in 2019, and returning the same basic group of players hoping they catch fire again has served the Mets poorly over the past 2 years.
